Price and the potential affect on young children's eyes are the only reasons I just bought my son a DSi over a 3DS. Had the price been sub $200 and the 3D been out in a handheld for at least 5 years to see any potential affects, I would have gone 3DS.
DSi will be their first portable. Whatever is after the 3DS in 5 years will be their next.
