I don't understand why people think it will be so easy for the Vita/PS3 combo to be linked. I didn't see anything in the Sony conference that really made me think they could be linked in a way similar to the Wii U. I understood the Ruin demo, and talking about being able to play the game on both platforms and such, but nothing was said about being able to use the Vita as a controller or extra screen for PS3 games. Did I miss something? (not being sarcastic, really did I miss something?) I'm not saying it's not possible, but some seem to have jumped to the conclusion that it is inevitable.

Probably because the PS3 and PSP can already be linked in some way through Remote Play, where games and movies on the PS3 can be streamed to the PSP. It's not that much of a stretch for PSVita to have a little bit more functionality than that.

Thats through cloud saving not infa red streaming. Sony would need a whole new system and technology to do what WiiU is doing. Im not saying its impossible for Sony to do im just saying its impossible on the PS3. Remember its the WiiU console that does all the work for the display on the controller. The controller itself has no processor so all the work is done by some kinda technology in the console.

This is from wiki:

Remote Play is a feature on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable which allows a PlayStation Portable user to interact with their PlayStation 3's Xross Media Bar. Users can access music, videos, photos, PlayStation games, The PlayStation Store and various applications stored on the PlayStation 3's HDD, or external flash drives and optical media attached to the PlayStation 3.

Remote Play works by encoding a live video stream of the output image on a PlayStation 3, then delivering it over a wireless network connection to a PlayStation Portable. Actions performed on the PSP such as the pressing of buttons are uploaded back to the PlayStation 3 over the same connection. This is similar in concept to remote desktop in Windows and Linux. The audio may also be sent to and played by the PSP, or instead delivered through the normal Playstation 3 audio connections, thus allowing the PSP to be used as a remote control for a Playstation 3 acting as a media player.

Not exactly cloud saving I think...

Well how they explained the Vita they were doing that via cloud. Its kinda similar cause you still need a network to be able to do that with the PS3. WiiU is streaming from the console to the controller with very low latency and the controller has no processor in it. I dont think PS3 will be able to do that and if they do attempt it they might sell a peripheral to attach to the PS3 to enable that feature.
