Even blizzard and valve(let's face it steam is another form of DRM as you have to register every boxed steam enabled PC CD game you bought from the cd to it) have to think new ways to further enhance their DRM..Are they ripping off their customers too?

What on earth are you on about now? Both Steam and Battle.Net function as DRM, but also offer extra services to compensate. The only piracy they can prevent is zero-day piracy- very often these days, console games are available for download a week or two before release, this rarely if ever happens with Steamworks games. Once the game is cracked, whatever DRM it had is completely useless and only serves to restrict what people who've legitimately bought the game can do with it. If it's a Steam game, you can't resell or give it to a friend, however the extra features Steam offers more than make up for it (in my opinion). If the added DRM is just a case of slapping SecuROM limited activations on and offering nothing in return, then that offers the consumer absolutely nothing, and the cracked version is actually superior.

And also, boxed retail sales for majority of multiplat games pale in comparison to their console counterparts.(unless you want to tell me vgchartz is not reliable for boxed sales)

Crap backtracking. VGChartz is widely regarded as unreliable for boxed sales. Regardless of the size of the market though, PC gamers still do buy boxed games. Some prefer a physical product, some want the collector's edition, often a boxed copy is cheaper than a digital one.
