Oh, its this thread again... Anonymous is supposedly a group of people that claim to be "hackers". They attempt to attack companies which they think have done wrong. I have only recently heard of them with the Sony attacks. This "anonymous" may not even be the same "anonymous" that you guys have heard of before.

Anonymous makes false claims in their video. They state Sony would punish you for something equivalent to simply downloading and uninstalling something on your computer. Wrong. I can download and delete music, videos, and games all I want on my PS3. They support hacking the PS3. While SOME good can come out of this in the end it leads to piracy which damages the game developers who gave your console purpose. Hacking the PS3 software is equivalent to hacking Windows software and I am pretty sure that is illegal.

Sony took out a feature on the PS3 and people are verbally abusing them calling them corrupt, evil, bad, etcetera but with no other reason then "OtherOS" being removed. Sure they removed a feature but it was not that great in the first place. I know some people say it wasn't because of security reasons that it was removed but it was due to cost. But what I find odd is why did they take out that feature soon after all the hacking news and why didn't they take it out in the first place when the PS3 cost $800 at launch? It may indeed be true that it was just to save money but if it was its odd to have been taken out at the time and not earlier.

Sony took out two total features that I know of. They took out "OtherOS" and PS2 backwards compatibility. Thats one important feature and its not "OtherOS". PS2 backwards compatibility was removed for manufacturing costs and because the PS2 was and is their best profiting product on the market and at the time the PS3 cost more to manufacture then it was sold for. How is Sony bad for this? If you really want a PS2 player a PS2 is very very cheap now and you can go online and find a PS2 backwards compatible PS3.

Because so many people think that Sony takes out features nonstop I will tell what features I know of that were taken out and what features I know of that were added to the PS3.

Features taken out:
OtherOS support
PS2 backwards compatibility

Features added:
Remote Play
Ability to upscale standard DVD-Videos to 1080p
Multiple video and audio improving updates
In game XMB
In game audio(up to developers)
Home
Facebook integration(up to developers)
Twitter integration(up to developers)
Youtube uploud integration(up to developers)
3D Support
Video editor & uploader added
Upload photos to Facebook or Picasa
Playstation Plus(Comes with many exclusive features such as automatic download and "cloud saving")

You can hate Sony all you want for removing one or two features but they are still a good company, at least in the gaming industry. They may be in the industry for money but they are not entirely greedy like people claim.

I would love to expose "Anonymous" a little bit and just state I have not heard of any hacking from them. Merely just DDoS attacks which most people can do... Maybe they are genius hackers but, well... I've not heard of any hacking attempts from them and merely only heard of childs play like the DDoS attacks. So much for a all powerful unknown association like they pretend they are. They fail to realize that a DDoS is not hacking and they fail to realize that when they DDoS attacked PSN that it affected all of the PSN users entirely more then it affected Sony. If they were a credible group then they would know how to make a good plan and that they failed at.

EDIT: PS2 backwards compatibility was not removed via firmware update. It is in many of the old PS3 models and you can find them online if you type in "PS2 Backwards Compatible PS3". OtherOS is the only one completely removed from updated PS3s while PS2 backwards compatibility resides with older PS3 models.
