Could a Canadian explain what do they even check in these checks? I'm planning to move to Quebec in a few years, and when applying for jobs here (Israel), I never needed to do any of that stuff.

This depends, I have only been required by one company to get a background check and that was Real Canadian Superstore. I have never heard about people here in BC getting urine tests or doing background checks. However you have to understand British Columbia where I live is probably drastically different then Quebec.

But for the most part Canada has stiffer privacy laws then in the US and I'm not sure how much testing that an employer can demand. Also I had several friends who have worked at Walmart and I asked one and he said he never needed a drug test.

So from the looks of it their won't be much checking. Also if your moving from Israel to Canada are you able to do so with a record? I know American's with records are often turned down when they apply to live here. Infact with a record a Canadian is often not even allowed into the USA.

I wonder how a record check would work if you just moved here. The RCMP would have no record to check lol.

Neither do I have a record ;). But who knows what they're interested in?

Quebec, as I hear, is more lenient on immigration laws - but either way, I don't think that any part of Canada is particularily keen on accepting people with a record. All checks are done by the embassy before you're given a visa so taht covers who's in and who isn't.
