perhaps Nintendo will take the same route they took with the gamecube and GBA but in reverse!

they will disrupt the Wii with a "third pillar" console system that also has some compatibility with Wii software! They could launch this system as early as holiday 2011 in Japan and spring 2012 in the rest of the world, and continue to support all 3 platforms for at least an additional year until Wii support is ended.

The catch? the device will not be a full HD console but rather some other kind of device. Maybe they could make it a tablet that can also function as a controller for the Wii as well as on it's own...

Maybe they could manufacture a retro 8-bit or 16-bit system that plugs into the end of the Wii remote, allowing you to play it on the go with only the remote (like some kind of game-boy micro but with motion sensors) or have it include a small RF transmitter so that you could play it on any TV with no additional wiring required - the whole device would be about the size of a wiimote with motion plus attached - just stick it in your back pocket when you visit a friend and play on their TV with minimal hassle!

This could also extend into new functionality for the wii, as maybe when connected (via wireless) to your home unit it could exchange data or upscale the graphics; Imagine playing a super mario bros. 3 type game on the go that automatically transitions to NSMB Wii graphics when you get home and vice versa! The potential for retro remakes alone would be quite huge. (not to mention the ever popular de-makes like dark void zero, etc. It could be like Nintendo's big joke on the industry with third parties coming up with 8-bit dead space or 16-bit Gears spin-offs)

Hell, since there are already motion sensors built into the remote this could allow for play-coins to be on wii as well! not to mention a street-pass or spot-pass type of functionality...

Or maybe it will be a camera that connects to the remote and allows you to take pictures outside and integrate them into Wii games (like a new Mario Paint...) Maybe this device would also include the mysterious vitality sensor as part of it, who knows?

I think Nintendo are in a unique position to offer some kind of novel, inexpensive (sub $100) hardware solution that broadens the Wii experience and extends it even further out of the living room while also offering some form of entertainment on its own.

I know I would be psyched for such an announcement, and it definitely has the potential to make the wii "cool" again...

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
