FYI, I do not think they group you are talking about are hardcore gamers.
They are just a new type of casual gamer that cares mostly about graphics, cut-scenes, and accessibility (see graphics-whore). They basically want the game to be a movie that they can pretend to play while all the prescripts do the majority of the playing for them.
Hardcore players, on the other hand, care about gameplay depth, tight controls, entertaining replay value, and intrinsically rewarding challenges. They like to play the same game many times because they are fun to actually PLAY over and over; and it feels good to them to overcome challenges (whether inherent to the game or improvised by the player) and bask in the BAMF glory of what they just managed to do.
