I can't say I approve of what is going on here. The change brought about by VGC Pro has been done to allow ioi to make the money he needs to continue improving VGC and the numbers behind it. Trying to nullify that change seems like a cry for personal gain with little understanding of why the change was done in the first place. I don't agree with ioi's decision to limit the weekly list to the top 40 only as it is a tad restricitive, but trying to undermine that change is not the right way of trying to change ioi's mind on the matter.

EDIT: That was probably a bit of an overreaction I had there. I'm sure I misjudged the intentions here, and I probably overestimated the effect this might have, but I stand by my point still (just in much less angry-face kind of way, and more of a I-wonder-how-ioi-feels-about-this kind of way).

Thanks for adding in the edit :)

I suspect this thread will not please ioi, but believe me, I did not create this without first thinkng it through, nor is the intention of this thread to annoy ioi. I supported ioi when he asked people not to use ad blocker. Every single time the site has been updated I have been supportive, offering constructive criticism and feedback. I support ioi every time someone comes to VGChartz with an axe to grind, complaining of imagined over/under tracking.

But I cannot support ioi in this decision.

My complaint is not the existence of VGChartz Pro. I completely understand and respect the decision to bring it in. As I said, if people use this thread, or any other to leak the extra data that VGChartz Pro users get, I will report them. My complaint is that ioi said that we would not lose anything, that VGC:Pro would be additions for paying customers rather than subtractions for normal users. Then, without even taking the time to tell us beforehand, we suddenly lost functionality unless we pay an amount that, for non commercial use, is more than most of us would pay. I feel that us core users of this site, who have been here to see the site grow and evolve, are being pushed aside to some degree with this decision.

I do not worry about the consequences of these actions. I doubt that any commercial entities will be happy getting their sales figures from forum posts, particularly with the limitations that are placed on them by the way in which I collect the data. The data will also come in much later than ioi's - I will upload my version of the data about 24 hours after the worldwide sales are up.

But, as always, the site is ioi's. If he does not want me posting this information. If he honestly thinks that it will hinder his ability to earn a decent wage, all he has to do is ask me to leave the site and I shall be gone.
