Ideally i'd see, for instance, every 1,000 Gamerscore on your Live profile net you an extra 100 MS Points for free. Now that would be worthwhile

The problem with offering real life rewards for virtual achievements is it any exploits in the achievement system will lead to actual finanical exploitation. They'res tons of people on my gamercard net with over half a million unaccounted gamer score, and taking the time to seperate all the cheaters would probably also be costly.

Even without hackers and such, they'd have to give a dollar worth of points to everyone who played Avatar: The Burning Earth or Peter Jackson's King Kong, and every other easy game would just cost them more money in free point rewards. With several million users, it would add up.

The coin pedometer however, sounds more akin to the PokeWalker or the rest system from World of Warcraft. It's a way for people who don't play often to make some progress while not actually playing the game. I'm fairly confident a lot of these in-game unlockables will also be obtainable through in-game means as well, and the coins will just be a short cut. This way people who aren't that great at games can eventually enjoy all the hidden stages, charaters, etc too.

True, though you could substitute in semi-worthless content that they charge money for, like Avatar clothing and such, or certain kinds of low-end DLC (horse-armor or already-on-the-disc class)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
