Cumulative worldwide sales for Digital Polyphonic/SCEA's car-life simulation Gran Turismo game franchise has exceeded 60-million units sold as of December 6, 2010. This sales figure, released by Sony, was achieved in just 12 years and 11 months since the Japanese launch of the first title in the franchise, Gran Turismo, in December 1997 on the original PlayStation console.

Grant Turismo 5, the most recently-released entry into the franchise, has sold a reported 5.52-million copies.

The Gran Turismo franchise, from the original Gran Turismo to the latest Gran Turismo 5, has continued to evolve alongside the PlayStation platforms. With its noteworthy gameplay, graphics and "true-to-life" driving simulation, the franchise is generally recognized as the world's top automotive game title on PlayStation, receiving high regard from game fans, professional racing drivers and enthusiasts in the automotive industry alike.
