I just have to say that Square-Enix did a good job in speeding up turn-based battles with Dragon Quest IX. That is my only issue, due to recent time-constraints, that I have with turn-based games anymore. Most of the time it is because an animation, that you must go through, takes a minute. They are two different gameplay styles, and one shouldn't be judged because it isn't another, as I've seen some reviewers do. I personally prefer turn-based systems when compared with the average real-time rpg, but if that real-time game plays realistically(definitely not Tales, Kingdom Hearts, or Star Ocean here, more akin to Monster Hunter with the basis being more Role-Playing than Action of course; most Western Role-Playing games do this right) then that would be the rare occasion that I'd probably prefer a real-time system. I also of course love when elements from both are combined.
