I'd also say that the number of gamers simultaneously interested in genres as various as adventure games, first-person shooters, RPGs, racing games, and platformers is relatively limited. Sony-developed games also seem to strive to be the best in their respective genres even at the expense of accessibility, which probably further limits their ability to sell ridiculous quantities.
