Its pretty common knowledge that sony owns Demons souls and SCEJ partnered with From to make it. As for bungie, I wasn't aware MS owned them at the time, so I guess that only applies to halo reach. And yes demons souls is the spiritual successor to kings field (great games by the way) but I don't see how that would effect sonys ownership of Demons souls.

I have yet to see a lick of evidence on who owns the IP all I know is From Software directly references the game in another one of their games and unless they get permission to do so they could get in trouble for if they do not own the IP.  And what does Kings Field have to do with anything?  Well that Sony if leading the pack as the topic says you don't really lead the pack just making a new King's Field title with the original developers :P just like Metroid Other M is satisfying the fans but it's not meant to lead the pack in what consumers want and change gaming.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Computer_Entertainment

it's under the list of IP's owned by Sony, and if you go on the official Demon's Souls Website is says that the copyright has been licenced to Atlus

Thank you for being someone that actually brought some evidence  I started looking after I got out of the shower and saw the Copyright under the demons souls official page and was about to post about it.

@ All the people debating over the co-developed games

Demons Souls = From Software and Sony Japan studios, From Software did a majority of the development, Sony Japan isn't even credited on the back of the game case, so it's sorta first party with most work, design, and concept coming from a third party developer, but this article was about pushing games on a technical level and I find it hard to believe Demon's Souls couldn't be done with just as good graphical fidelity on 360

Metroid Other M = Nintendo SPD group 1 (being produced by the creator of the Metroid series Sakamoto) teaming up with Team Ninja, Nintendo has been pretty transparent that it's NOT strictly a Team Ninja game, hell when Nintendo gave the series to one of its own studios (Retro) they watched them like a hawk throughout development, this is a lot stricter than something like Mistwalker working on Lost Odyssey and co-developing with free plus where Mistwalker did a lot of the work (basically all that they could since they weren't a big team) it's Nintendo with a lot of influence and Team Ninja bringing in their own talents and obviously making the game a bit more action packed.

Halo 1-3 = Bungie as a first party, Halo Wars = Ensemble as a first party, Halo ODST and Reach = Bungie as a third party, the IP itself is owned and funded by Microsoft, the only reason Bungie broke off was because of Microsoft restricting their creative freedom, effectively any Halo made by Bungie now is no longer first party, but Microsoft will have a big hand in it regardless cause they're gonna give it lots of funding, promote it like crazy, make public betas, etc etc, stuff Bungie couldn't do on their own.
