Who makes up these arbitrary rules anyhow?

I couldn't care less what game reached 15 millions copies sold faster, but I think Modern Warfare 2 is one game, regardless of how many platforms it is on. If they're referring to games belonging to a specific console, state it as so, otherwise it's just confusing/misleading (unintentional). For a news article, it's an error that should be fixed, I think.

It is stated quite clearly in the article. The article addresses the exact complaints of this thread in fact. It explains perfectly what it is referring to and justifies the reasoning completely.

Whoa. I feel sheepish. I'd even read it and somehow missed that.

I retract my statement!

Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, available for the two HD platforms - which have a slightly bigger base than Wii - reached 15 million units combined at an earlier date than New Super Mario Bros. Wii while launching at roughly the same time. However, the availability of the title on multiple platforms effectively doubles its "time" on the market.

Is this the "reasoning"?

I added an edit. It seems like an arbitrary rule added simply to change an outcome.

It took MW2 8 weeks to hit 15 million, even if we take Sources silly idea about it having effectively double the amount of time. That makes it 16 weeks.

16 weeks faster than NSMB

basically, unless the game is exclusive, it doesn't count.
