While this was a well written review and I'm pretty excited about the game, I'm certain this is a great game, but I must state how this just kinda proves the point about IGNs reviews.

Craig Harris also reviewed NSMB Wii, low balling the score of a game because it should have had online multiplayer cause "online is standard this day and age", frankly shoehorning in an excuse to rate it lower despite the game that was made was exceptionally solid and he had to put in online multiplayer as a standard to count off.

In turn if that is your standard then by all rights there is no way in hell SMG2 deserves a 10, Craig used to be the entirety of the handheld team, so he knows that SM64 on the DS had multiplayer, pretty fun multiplayer in fact, if you can shoehorn in online multiplayer as a reason to count off on NSMB Wii you should count off on SMG2 cause you can do fun multiplayer in 3D Mario as well.

Sorry for the bit of a rant I went on but the lack of standards is outright awful and a pain to see.

I think he had good basis for it though, NSMBWii was designed so you could have 4 players on the same screen at once, having that feature yet only limiting it to local play is kind of lame because I would have loved to jump online with that game. SMG and 2 were never designed for more than 1 MAIN player at once, so there is noway you can knock off points for it not having online play.

The main mode in both games is singleplayer, both games were designed with single player in mind first its the whole reason multiplayer on NSMB wii hinders you instead of helps you and when you play the game by yourself you can obtain all of the star coins and reach all of the areas without someone elses help, it was designed as a single player experience first.

So the bit about having hindering multiplayer online not being there and harping on it for the whole review and saying how it should be standard is, to put it bluntly, a load of shit.  You can do multiplayer in 3D Mario like I said SM64DS has it, it's pretty fun too, so you could technically do that sort of multiplayer online and it would still be within the bounds of his statement about how online was standard this gen apparently even for a single player game.
