Owners may not equal the total fanbase of a console. There have infact been many long standing posters here who supported one console over another since launch but hadn't actually purchased it.
There's probably an age gap between the hardcore on the Wii and on the 360. The 360 hardcore is probably many gamers in their mid to late teens, while the Nintendo hardcore could be up in their 30's or 40's. I'd reckon a sales and stats website might be more appealing to an older crowd.
This site only really started to gain popularity as this gen got underway. The membership would have been tiny before then.
