You live in their house and you don't have a valid license. I don't see a scenario, short of driving a nun who's been shot to the hospital, where your parents giving you the car is a good idea. Plus, TWO parties!? You should hug them right now for caring so much about you.
It seems like a drag, now. I know. But get those keys, have an accident or get pulled over for talking on you cell phone -you'll be kicking yourself. Just ride this one out. They may be older, but they know what they're taking about.
