O the playstation, what a great and glorious console you and your younger brother the PS2 are. Your ability to have hundreds of great games was inspiration for all video game platforms. Being able to just pick up the Playstation and play was one of the greatest things about you. The first video game system that I have ever owned (not handheld) was the great playstation 2 purchased in mid 2002. We have had wonderful times together with amazing games like Final Fantasy X, Twisted Metal Black, and Final Fantasy XII, just to name a couple of the plethora of amazing games availble on the platform.

What has happened since you ask? Not one but two systems have been disappointments for me. The PSP and the PS3. The first I could live with and I must say I was incredibly excited to get the PSP for the first time. I was able to play a good Twisted Metal game for the first time since Black was released in 2001. I had a blast with it. And then the wait began. The long wait.........Where were the games? I was getting plenty of DS games constantly that were so much fun me and my friends would just sit together and play the DS. With so little games being put out on the PSP I could barely contain my dissappoinment, how could Sony not follow the wonderful formula that had led them to great succuess with the PS1 and PS2. Not to worry though, surely the PS3 the mother of all video game machines will show me the light and prove Sony knows how to handle the video game market.

So November 2006 came and went and I was without a PS3. Why do you ask? Someone who had enjoyed the playstation brand for years would surely jump on the next gen console and have the time of his life with the great graphics. Well unfortunatley I enjoy games more than I enjoy graphics. As pretty as a system is if there is no substance, no style and nothing to keep me entertained, then what is the point? $600 doesnt just pop out of thin air. Sure I had some fun with resistance for about two seconds, (using close friends PS3 btw). But that was it, no stellar incredibly graphics pushing RPGS, no racing destruction, just one FPS. For a little while longer I kept a small amount of hope that the PS3 would deliver. The months passed and what has my waiting and patience born fruit? There are two critically acclaimed games that are coming out just for the PS3. Just two. A platformer that I couldn't care less about, and Uncharted a game that looks nice, and might keep me entertained for all of about 15 hours. With all of the ridiculous price cuts and count um, 5 SKUS! They still are unable to crack 6 million sold. The entire gaming community has lost faith in this one past powerful brand, and the PS3 cannot survive the holiday season.

How people are able to just blindly cling to this insane platform is beyond me. Give me some inspiration. Why am I plunkering down 500 dollars to buy game I can pick up on a console $100 cheaper? Why do people believe that it will possibly sell at least 3 million units this christmas. With what games!?! If aything this christmas will finally turn all of the people holding out for the PS3 to the 360. With incredibly games coming out every month, it and the Wii, with amazing games being released for it as well, are going to clean up.

The biggest question of all isn't "why" the PS3 has lost so much respect. It is how long is Sony going to keep on going with the firm notion that they won't finish third. When this holiday season is over we shall see.
