What's funny is that he will come back and say no I bought the game I swear, I can show you the CD key!
Ghostbusters supposedly did the same thing (I actually don't know if it's true or not, never bothered asking) with certain parts of the game so that you can't wrangle gargoyles and can't kill certain bosses.
When people tell them it isn't a bug and it's copy protection, they get all sorts of defensive and swear they bought the game. It's fun to watch. ^^
