Just wanted to point out that Japan was relevant of the consoles war when PS3 was sold higher than the Wii, and now three months later you can dismiss it. Someone need to tell me if and when Japan sales are interesting or not.
The OP theory is interesting, but it can't explain everything. For me the main reason is that the western developpers put their main efforts in building HD games before the Wii was out. They believed people would buy the games that would look better and the consoles with the biggest known fanbase. Now they come bach step by step, but the biggest budget titles are still on HD consoles (not to waste the money already spent). Well, it's only my opinion, briefly explained in poor english.
