You had some excellent picks on page 1.  You should play Battle, it's a wonderfully fantastic game, although kids nowadays won't appreciate it because it's challenging.

First day if it ever hits VC. Just like Star Tropics, the other game I always wanted to play on NES. And like Landstalker, the only reason I ever wanted a Mega Drive.

StarTropics is definitely one of the best games on NES, and one of the few good games we got in the US that Japan did not get!  Definitely go for it if you haven't played through it.  There is also a StarTropics II, which is an excellent game as well, with improved controls, but I didn't like the setting as much.  Still a lot of fun.  Landstalker is another great pick.
