See the fact that GT5 is not out means you cannot compare sales, so why are you trying? This thread was more than likely made just to see who THOUGHT that GT is more popular, without sales numbers your argument is nothing. But lets face it, there was a bigger following, and more excitement for Halo3 than there is for GT5. And I guarantee you few (if any) people will actually stand in lines outside of stores just to get a copy of the game, and I doubt any will take time off work to play it. So yes, just in leading up to the first day of sales Halo3 blows GT5 out of the water.

I said, and this will be the third time now: "I think any comparison as of now, until GT5 is released, is highly speculative." Any comparison between the two is ridiculous now. I seem to be the only one not actually taking a definite stance on this.

Your second point is irrelevant. Hype does not equal popularity. They are very much different things. Just because an already existing fanbase (and a smaller one, too) is more excited about a release, does not make it more popular. I will reiterate:

Hype does not equate to popularity. The book 'Twilight' is getting an insane amount of hype lately, does that mean it is as popular as 'Romeo and Juliet' (which is owned by just about every school kid in the western world)? Just because a fanbase is more cult-like, doesn't make it more popular either. People study and adore the movie 'Casablanca', but does that necessarily mean it was more popular than 'The Titanic'? Certainly not. Just because an existing fanbase is more rabid (or active, if you will) does not mean it is more popular... You may be able to argue that it is more revered.

And yes, I would say that several Wii games are more popular than either Halo or GT: Wii Sports and Wii Fit namely.

So, what criteria are you basing this popularity on? Keep in mind, this is a question of popularity, not hype. I mean if we are to base this on hype, we could probably say Killzone is more popular than GT.
