The first console I bought with my money was a PlayStation 1 (note: I've been playing consoles since Atari 2600 in the early 80s) I also bought two PS2s (one used) and currently I'm the proud owner of a PS3.

I played Nintendo like the devil in the 8-bit era, but 16-bit era was mostly Genesis for me, although I also discovered and beat many great games on the SNES (RPGs almost all of them) I still cherished the Sega company. My love for Sega led me to support the Saturn instead of Sony at first (although I was so undecided I didn't buy the Saturn) but soon I knew Sony was the "new blood" and the old Sega and Nintendo had been left lagging behind (Cartridges in N64...Nintendo, really?) Still appreciate Sega a lot. I still have my Dreamcast and swore to never get rid of it (being the last console Sega ever made, still).

However, I also bought a Xbox (original), but the curious thing is besides Ninja Gaiden Black, the only games I played on that console where ROMS for SNES, Genesis, Neo-Geo, and Arcade emulators. Yeah, I pirated the hell out of it. I had no interest in the Xbox as a game console whatsoever, I just used it to watch/stream movies/music/pictures on the excellent (homebrew) Xbox Media Center and now and then play emulators. I sold it last year as I had no more room for it and many of its media capability functions were redudant as I have a PS3 (and the PS3 streams HD videos while the Xbox can't). I still miss my emulators, though. That's as far my history with MS consoles go.


There was a moment when I was tempted to buy the X360, but I was greatly discouraged that I couldn't do the same thing I did with the first one (even though it was easy to mod it too) heh-heh. Propietary HD and only 20GB, wtf? I can't throw my stuff inside the HDD? WTF? Pay for Live, WTF? Still I almost when ahead to buy one...and the news hit: RROD. The last straw. Thank God I didn't waste my money. This is the day I don't consider the investment on a 360 worth it (the hassle and inevitable loss of my money once the warranty expires) even if I were to play every game for cents on a modded machine. As for the Wii, Nintendo practically "lucked out" this gen as they went (again) with the same selfish retro-minded approach they've had since the N64, only this time they hit an oil well by accident (and shame on Sony to allow them). I believe the PS3 will grind the 360 to the dust by the end of 2010 (meaning by X-mas of that year, the tide will have turned completely 180 degrees), it will begin next christmas. It'll be thrilling to watch.
