That is different, they have a different story. What was punch outs story originally? What is the new punch outs story? I thought so. No matter how you spin it, it's a remake. Though in no way is that a bad thing, just don't deny it.

Wait what? Punch Out story is the same so its a remake? Wtf?

EDIT - Thats just....wtf!? STORY in Punch out!? STORY IN FUCKING PUNCH OUT!?

My exact point. There is none. Well if you want to call that a story... You mentioned a bunch of games, which are heavy on story, you might of well said RE5 is a remake because it has chris and RE1 had chris. Punch out, looks the same(mechanic wise), based from first game, same story, same characters, except a few new ones, yep thats a remake.

Does that make sequels of racing games also remakes? Those are usually games without stories. Or generally, are all sequels of games without stories automatically just remakes?

Also a difference, they update heavily the whole game. Though a lot of racing games end up being that, but most racing games have a heavy story. You are building a carreer as a driver, or some other story, you constantly tune and change the cars etc. You are also putting words in my mouth. Punch out is no different then it's NES counterpart. The style, the "story"(it actually has one, it's the same story), the characters, with a few extras of course, and even down to fighting mechanices, only thing that has changed is you use wii-mote. You can call it a new game, which it is, just as every remake is new. At the end of the day it's a remake.

Remember, if it smells like a duck, quaks like a duck, looks like a duck, it's a duck.
