Nintendo = gaming

Playstation = gaming

Sony = a whole bunch of stuff, mostly consumer electronics (TV's, Cameras, DVD players)

which is the fair comparison?

 

Nintendo = Company (Games, Pokemon anime, Cards)

Sony = Company (You know it)

PlayStation(s) = Videogame System(s)

GB, DS, Wii, GC = Videogame Systems

This is fact, not an opinion. So comparison can only be made only between those comparable, not how you define them.
