You mean like how Microsoft stole the Achievement idea from Sony's Trophies, right?
And Nintendo ripped off the Six Axis thing with their Wii controller, right?

And, of course, Halo is a rip off of Killzone 2.

As for it being "pathetic", well the idea is to answer what competitors are doing with your own approach, so you don't lose marketshare.
