PS3 is not selling too well as is and to make up an 8 million console lead while trying to hit a moving target is even more difficult. What was the gap between the Genesis and the SNES when the SNES was first released?

The genesis released first, (like the 360) but when the Snes was released and began closing the gap (like Ps3 was doing earlier last year) The Snes actually caught then passed the genesis and didn't look back. The Snes didn't fail to catch the Genesis and then fall behind even further.
