In your case I realize you had some concerns that could be addressed, but in many cases, it's merely an avenue to bitch. All of the responses to the OPs are the equivalent of telling someone at a funeral "I'm sorry for your loss". There's no discussion involved, just polite quick talk because people feel they need to say something.
The best way to avoid this is to directly ask the members a question. Then you have automatically started a discussion. In your example, having said, "Is anyone familiar with difficulties getting help from Microsoft in my part of the world? I live in Trinidad." would have been a conversation opener instead of just another member bitching about their RROD like VGChartz is their internet diary. I hope you see the difference.
