The PS2 has way more RPGs (and a lot of them are excellent), but the quality of some of the PS1 RPGs will never be equalled: Suikoden II, Final Fantasy VII, FFVIII, Chrono Cross and FF Tactics are five of my favourite games ever.
Then comes the PS2, no doubt: Persona 3, Suikoden III, Suikoden V, Star Ocean 3, Xenosaga, Kingdom Hearts II, SMT Nocturne, FFX, FFXII and Disgaea (and some more I'm missing) make the hugest lineup of excellent RPGs available on any console
