Sony chief David Reeves has said the forthcoming 160GB PlayStation 3 console is a limited edition system.

The Sony European boss said the launch of the next PS3 model has been implemented to test demand for a higher-priced, higher-spec machine.

“The 160GB PS3 is a limited edition that we’re doing to see how it goes in all the territories,” SCEE president David Reeves told UK trade magazine MCV.

In North America, Sony will release the 160GB PS3 console in November, bundled with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, for $499.99.

160GB PS3....An Effing rip off!

(As a side note, a 40GB costs MORE than an 80GB)

Higher spec? My arse, more marketing bullshit. Sony are not planning to possibly release "higher spec" PS3s. This is a just deception and a play on words.

Sony are charging you an extra £70 for something that costs them less than £10 to mandate
