Forums - Sales Discussion - How long will Wii Sports and Wii Play be in Top 10 in Japan?

"IT WILL BE ON THE CHARTS UNTO THE LORD GOD HIMSELF TEARS A HOLE INTO THE SPACE TIME CONTINUUM AND REACHES DOWN TO EARTH TO TAKE EVERY SINGLE COPY OF THE GAME OFF THE PLANET WHILE DESTORYING ANY EVIDENCE THAT IT EVERY EXSISTED!" My word is law and I know I'm right!

I think it will be on the charts for a while though, I think sales will go down when they release Wii Health and Wii Music and all the other games in that series!

Until at least 3rd quarter of 2007, I would presume. This week marks the highest numbers for Wii sports and Wii Play since over a month ago, that tells you how much Wii supply dependent these two are. I project at least 2 million LTD for both, possibly 3 million and beyond. These two could potentially sell very well in the Wii's lifetime similar to Animal Crossing and NSMB for the DS. If that happens, I don't think Wii Sports will be out of the top 10 for at least another year, and will stay in the top 20 for two years, never venturing out of the top 30 for the entirety of the Wii's lifetime.

superchunk has the right answer. Wii Sports tier ratio is around 0.63~0.66 per Wii, and Wii play is around 0.5~0.53 every week. Therefore, the Wii would have to dip below 45k units to really get below the top 10 on a consistent basis. However, the tier ratio will slow down in around 6 months once better "alternate" titles come out...Wii Sports 2, Wii Health, ect become commonplace. At that point, they'll slowly back off. However, they will (combined) sell atleast 7m copies in Japan by then.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
