Seems like Halo sales really brought down Wii sales. I'm worried for the XBox360 though. When 3rd parties see how well the 1st party software does it may scare them off from trying to compete.

Huh? Three of the top ten titles this month are third party 360 games, this dispite the fact that 3.3 million copies of what was probably the most anticipated first party title dominating the console. When you add in the fact that the only other third party game in the top ten was a PS2 game your comment becomes bizarre to say the least.

It was sarcasm. I fell for it, as well.

It would have been sarcasm if there were no third party 360 titles in the top 10 (putting the 360 in the same position as the Wii when it's major first party games dominate the system). That would have made 360 owners look like fools for saying such things about the Wii, but he failed.

The first sentence was kind of ironic, don'tcha think? And what Albionus so eloquently said.

OT: It was a very good month for Wii60.

Here is what I am projecting for 2007 (by NPD) Oct-Dec numbers are estimated, other numbers are publicly reported figures.

Wii ~2.1 million425,000403,600501,000424,0001,000,0002,000,000
Xbox 360~1.2 million170,000276,700527,800360,000575,0001,325,000
PS3~763,500159,000130,600119,40090,000400,0001,000,000
DS~2.7 million405,000383,300495,800390,000850,0002,250,000
PSP~1.3 million214,000151,200284,500234,000475,0001,250,000

PS2~1.5 million222,000202,000215,000168,000376,0001,000,000

Reasons:

- Halo 3 boost wears off in October for 360 - but momentum continues.  Sales won't double in Nov from Oct because the biggest game was released in Sept, and because PS3 becomes $400/$500 (and the $500 version includes a game) November 2.

Do you really think the 360 sales are going to drop that much for October?  It has already sold 120k this past week (down only 5% from the previous week).  The Halo effect doesn't seem to be wearing off very quickly.  The 360 would need to drop to 80k/week (-30%) in order to hit 360k for October.  With the holiday bundle coming up, I don't see that happening.

Well, 120k in the USA+Canada (in other words really only ~105k in the USA). I think the USA sees...105/95/80/70 which is how I arrived at my 360k figure. Vgchartz will likely have it at ~396k given the additional Canadian sales.

Yeah, I don't really see the 360 numbers being so low either. October sees whatever left over Halo momentum there is (and there will be some, no way that sales increased for 12 days and went back to normal) as well as the release of the new bundles. And if marketed right, Mass Effect could put up similar results as Gears of War. Not only that, but I simply don't see the sales increase from last year being that small.

Microsoft News:

Xbox 360 Tops Console Sales in September and outsells PS3 5:1
o Xbox 360 sales built upon its growth from last month, showing a 50 percent increase for the month of September selling an average of 105,600 consoles per week. Total sales were more than 528,000 Xbox 360 consoles sold, compared to 501,000 for Wii and 119,000 for PS3.

o PS3 sales posted an average weekly decline of 27 percent.

Xbox 360 software revenue at retail outsold PS3's software portfolio 8:1 and Wii's 4:1, selling 3 times more than both platforms combined.
o For the month of September according to NPD, Xbox 360 software represented 74 percent of total software sales for the next generation market compared to 17 percent for Wii and 9 percent for PS3. Even without the sales of "Halo 3" the Xbox 360 portfolio outsold the PS3 portfolio 2:1.

Additionally, Xbox 360 is home to the best-selling games with the top-rated next-generation titles.
o According to the world-wide authority in entertainment reviews, Metacritic, Xbox 360 has 80 titles with a Metacritic review score of 80 or higher compared to just 31 for PS3 and 11 for Wii.

o Newly released title "The Orange Box" (Valve) and the highly anticipated title "Mass Effect" (Microsoft Game Studios) have both generated rankings of 97 and higher according to Metacritic. And not to forget "BioShock" (2KGames) which remains one of the year's highest rated games.

Xbox 360 held six spots in the Top Ten Console Games, led by initial sales of "Halo 3" Xbox 360
o In its first two weeks, the three editions of "Halo 3" placed #1, 2 and 3 overall for console title sales - for a total of more than $225 million in sales in the U.S. with 3.3 million units. Average unit prices were $69 per game. The $130 "Halo 3: Legendary Edition" alone sold twice as many units as the top title for PS3 "Heavenly Sword" (SCE); the helmet is mightier than the sword.

o Proving that Xbox 360 is the new home for sports gamers, "Madden NFL '08" (EA) on Xbox 360 was again the leading next gen platform with 173,000 units sold, compared to the PS3 at 62,000 and Wii at 58,000. To date, "Madden NFL '08" has sold 1.1 million units on Xbox 360, 87 percent more than other next-gen platforms combined.

o Xbox 360 exclusive "BioShock" has sold 641,000 units through the end of September and remains to be on track to sell more than 1 million units. While "Halo 3" and "Madden NFL '08" have led the way as the first of a string of titles that are expected to sell more than 1 million units between now and the end of the year.

o Rounding out the top titles for Xbox 360, "Skate" (EA) came in at #6. The Xbox 360 version of the innovative titles outsold the PS3 version 6:1.

^^^^What was all that complaining about the horrible "arrogant" Nintendo? I wonder whether hooting or jeering will predominate after that press release (going by other forums it seems to be primarily the former).

The SimExchange Blog is up (wonder why no one has posted it)

Lair did only 57k in US

Madden PS3 61k

Stranglehold 104k

I think than 360 will sell more than 1.5 m in december. The last year sold 1.1 or 1.3 m, i dont remember, with less games than now. I doubt than ps3 will sell 1 m in december, maybe 700k. Wii can sell 2 m in december, but i don belive it can sell 1 m in november, 800 sound ok for me.

End of 2011 (made 02/01/11)
Wii: 99.453 m
Xbox 360: 67.837 m
Ps 3: 60.726 m

these are NPD estimates, we don't know for sure whether our 120K is right or not.

Haha, I loved that "helmet is mightier than the sword" comment in MS's press release. Arrogant, I know, but at least they're being arrogant about something which is real, unlike Sony has done with so many things regarding the PS3!
