Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii reaches 6 million in 4 months

•Wii will catch and surpass XBox 360's Americas sales ALSO by THIS SUMMER—again specifically within the month of July
Sorry man, but they supply just isn't there. I'm not doubting the demand but Nintendo needs to increase production significantly or significantly under supply other regions to catch up to with the 360 in NA this year. Even with more systems ellers on the horizon, the supply is just severely restricted for that to happen. Next year for NA, very likely. Worldwide this year? You bet your momma it's gonna happen in the next six months.

With the production increase, did Nintendo say what their production numbers would change? I'd guess between 25-33% conservatively myself...

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Johnlucas is becoming the Washimul of the Wii world. Like Erik said, for the Wii to outsell the 360 by July, it'd have to nearly TRIPLE it's current sales to do that - virtually impossible (Nintendo would litterally have to cut off every shipment to Japan and Europe and send them to the US until July to do that). Stupid stupid stupid. Your predictions will easily fail in the face of reality. I am SURE if Nintendo could magically conjour up 14 million more systems, a good bit might sell. However, they can't. Thats why Nintendo won't sell anywhere near the 20m you think they will. I guess this is why I don't see you on the top 20 list for the predictions league?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Once again, its hard to know until Nintendo gives us their forecast... 20 million by the end of the year does sound like a best-case scenario, though...

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Nah, 15m max. Which would be about 2m better than the 360 and 8m more than the ps3.

I love Wii, but it is not a console with lasting power. it will sell very well tell about feb 08 and yes it will be in the lead at that point. But with the prices of HDTVs plumiting and the and the wiis none hd inviorment it will begin to suffer. Once games like Forza 2, Fable 2, Halo 3, Final Fantasy 13, MGS4, GT5, Killzone, and R and C start showing up people will not be as impressed with the wiis motion controll anymore. =-==== To me that is the next 6 years in the console industry, wii will do good in 07 with the momentum shifting in 08 anthe PS3 and 360 dominating 09 through 12.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I think it is reasonable to say Wii can reach 15 million by the end of 2007. Look at the title of the thread - 6 million Wii's in 4 months. That is 1.5 million per month. More really, given the smaller time frames in Europe/Japan. In January and February sales appeared to be in the 800,000 to 1.2 million range. In the Americas, and Japan it appears Wii is still selling out. That means increased productivity could mean monthly sales of 1 to 1.5 million Wii's (yearly totals divided by 12) if demand does not decrease. Once production goes up, I really do think Will will sell 300-400k in the Americas, 250k to 350k in Japan, and 200k to 300k in Europe for most of the year. November is more like 600k in the Americas and Japan, with 400k in Europe, while December could be worth 3 million alone... Frankly, my formula/graph (made in February) still seems accurate, placing Wii at 15-20 million by the end of the year, 360 at 13-16 million by the end of the year, PS3 at 7-11 million by the end of the year.

The only problem with your prediction is, that in 5 years (2012) nobody will be interested in an old system like 360 or PS3 anymore...

Lingling: The Wii is already far behind in visual and graphic experience. The ps2 fought atleast for a few years before it became totally behind in graphics. So I believe that ps3/360 will survive longer this generation. So 07 is the year for the Wii maybe 08 also. If ps3/360 is old tech in 2009/2010, what is Wii going to be :D

The problem with that is most support is decided in the 1st & 2nd year of a generation. If wii dominates the first two years it may continue to dominate solely on software much like the inferior PS2 did last gen. (Don't even try to argue it PS2, was inferior in every way to GC and Xbox aside from 3rd party support.) Graphics matter, yes, but what extent do they matter for the general public that Wii is aiming for? Honestly.. Games could have never improved beyond PS2/GC/Xbox graphics and I really would never care, there were a good deal of beautiful games on them.
