Forums - Gaming Discussion - Manhunt 2...a test?

I find it strange that out of all the new consoles Rockstar have chosen to release it on the Wii.

Could this possibly be a test to see if this kind of game will sell on the Wii before they consider whether to release GTA or not?

I've heard comments about the Wii not being powerful enough but that doesn't seem to stop other developers releasing their games on all consoles.

If it is, that's stupid, because I'm probably not going to buy Manhunt 2...not my kind of game...but I would buy GTA in a flash if they released it on the Wii.

This makes me mad...if that theory is true that is...I sure hope they don't make all decisions about mature games based on Manhunt...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

manhunt is so over the top gory and violent that it will appeal to a niche market and, if i recall correctly, GTA isnt

Wii ID: 3598-1817-7961-3393. PM me if you want an add

If it wasnt for MGS4, the PS3 is unnecessary

Manhunt 2 will sell for sure as the negative publicity about a Rockstar game is not now meant for the PS2 / PS3 but for the WII this time! And you know how these Rockstar games are going... right...

Manhunt 2 is absolutely not my game, none of the Rockstar games for that matter, too violent and bloody for my taste.

It's because they are bringing their secondary game to the Wii, just like all the other big companies are doing while they release their main series on 360/PS3...

Also, it's because they were going to make the game for PS2 and porting it to PSP and Wii is being done a lot with PS2 games nowadays (like Tomb Raider), it's a cheap port cash in.

If the controls are good, I'm getting it.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

The big question is what will they do after they finish the first wave of this gen's projects, and realise making games for the Wii is suddenly several orders of magnitude more profitable than a year or so ago.

I agree Manhunt 2 is a very poor way to test how well violent games in general would do on the Wii. It's a niche title, and GTA is one of the most mainstream franchises out there.

It might be a more general market test for Rockstar, but I think the bottom line is that this is a game concept that was A) portable from the PS2 codebase and B) really intriguing and controversial with motion controls.

I'm assuming the game was in development for the PS2 before they decided to do an upgraded Wii version and release it simultaneously - since the original Manhunt was on PS2 I don't think that's a big stretch, but I appreciate that the Wii version is meant to be the definitive one. The kills are just non-interactive cutscenes on the PS2, so the Wii version is a significant step up in gameplay.

I don't think the success or failure of Manhunt 2 has much direct bearing on any possible GTA-Wii project. However, if it does much better than expected it could certainly accelerate the development of more M-rated Wii titles and encourage adoption of the platform by self-proclaimed "hardcore" gamers.

I'd say the violent market was already tested and proven successful with Red Steel. There is no need for this.

...Wasn't Red Steel rated Teen and not Mature though?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Yes, but it's a violent shooter and the same general market type. Markets aren't divided by rating
