but you will always have the argument that more competition is good for a market; how do you counter that argument in this particular case MZTAZMZ

LOL, you're making this too easy!

Here goes, if M$ didn't make an xbox, we'd have Sony and Nintendo(2 companies)

2 companies = competition.

and FYI: even though 360 launched first, PS3 was in developement long before 360 was. you notice how similar the specs are

3.2 ghz multicore CPU

512MB system+GPU ram

500mhz GPU

speaking in terms of hardware only, it's obvious M$ was trying to make a cheaper and lower quality PS3. They made the simple assumption that if it looks similar on paper and the price is lower, every gamer would buy a 360 over a PS3 right? MS always thinks there's a simple stupid solution to every problem and they always bet on consumer ignorance in order to sell an inferior product(RROD)

At least try to spend enough time to get your facts straight. Those weren't Sony's original specs for the PS3. They originally wanted two Cells and no GPU IIRC. Once they realized they were on the fast track to a $1200 machine, they changed things around and put the RSX in there... Which is why the RSX is basically an off-the-shelf GPU while the Xenos is quite a bit different than what ATI was offering when the Xbox released.

So, I'm curious... Exactly what has Sony innovated in this industry? It's an honest question and if you feel the need to openly rip MS for stealing others' ideas on a gaming forum, you shouldn't have any difficulty coming up with several points where Sony has innovated the console industry since 1995.

Wait, what has Sony ever done in the console business that's innovative? If you want to include corporate strategy and the way they partner with third party developers, I guess you might be able to include that. They probably deserve a little credit for the DualShock as well, even though Nintendo brought back analog sticks and offered rumble before Sony.

MS deserves just as much credit for integrating online play with voice chat in consoles, bringing DLC and online game stores to consoles, and integrating HDDs into every console.

This thread is fanboy fail. Sony hasn't exactly been pioneering anything in this industry lately, either. In fact, one could argue that until the Wii released, consoles had nearly sat still for an entire decade thanks to Sony. At least MS threw in a curveball with the addition of online access and voice chat, the only real console "innovation" from 1995 to 2006.

This thread is fanboy fail?

first off, yeah i know you're a mod and thanks for insulting me. of course if i insult you, i get banned right? maybe that's reason for you to be more mature as a mod and not insult anyone.

here's what Sony did:

first console to push 3d polygon gaming into the mainstream(which had a huge part in FFVII and MGS' being much more immersive and cinematic than their earlier games). Sony stepped up and that's why they gained the Final Fantasy series. Also Kojima himself said in an interview on the Metal Gear saga Vol. 1 DVD that the PS1's capabilities is what pushed him to make Metal Gear Solid. If not for Sony, how much longer would we have been stuck with 2d gaming?

first console to put in a nongaming feature(CD player in PS1, DVD in PS2). CD and DVD players were not cheap at the time these consoles launched. And a Bluray player costs as much as a PS3.

Dreamcast was the first console to do online, not MS, check your facts dude.

I didn't say MS was the first to integrate online. Reading comprehension FTL.

3D gaming? Is that the best you can do? That's a technical advancement, nothing more. The entire industry was moving in that direction and Sony made a wise move to push it over SEGA's strategy of 2D with the Saturn. Smart, but not exactly "innovation".

DVD players were under $150 when the PS2 released and over 14 million DVD players had sold in the US before a single PS2 was sold. CD player? Are you joking? Most people I knew had CD players in their car in 1995.

So sad... You can't really come up with anything of note, can you? Yet you still found it necessary to dedicate an entire thread to MS-bashing...

NEC released the Turbo Duo in 1991 in Japan and 1992 in the US. It played Turbo Graphix 16 games, Turbo CD games(Which released in 1987), and Super CD games. They brought CD based console gaming ot the industry seven years before Sony and two years before Sega. So there was backwards compatible CD based console on the market nearly a decade before the PS2 and three years before the PS1.

Heck even the little known Pioneer Laser Active would fit your description. It came out in 1993 and it played Genesis, TG-16, Turbo CD, and Laser Disc based games. Of course it made the 3DO seem cheap in comparison.

I agree with operator. Besides Halo 3 and Gears of War what is there on XBox 360, that is not already on PS3?

I think ps3 boys would like to have a rpg like mass effect (and please dont say ff13, maybe in 2 years more) and all great rpgs like blue dragon, lost odyssey, etternal sonata (maybe this one yes). Dead Risig will be great on ps3. A fps so deep like bioshock. Forza (gt5 will came en 2 years more so, in 2 years we can talk about it). And what about the ps3 games, right now, it doesnt have. Lets wait for the next months to see if all those hyped games for ps3 can be at least, as good as halo 3 and gears of war. GH2 is the best, and in this gen, is only con 360.

End of 2011 (made 02/01/11)
Wii: 99.453 m
Xbox 360: 67.837 m
Ps 3: 60.726 m

Best Games/Serie of the Generation
