Forums - Gaming Discussion - Micro$oft, the most UNoriginal console maker ever.

jkimball, I answered on those 5 points!.... :P

''Hadouken!''

Why hasn't this thread been closed? It's pathetic flame bait. I could make thread saying the very same things about Sony and have far more examples. A Sony fanboy calling MS unoriginal is the pot calling the kettle black. Sony has co-opted the ideas of its competitors from the moment it entered the video game hardware market. SSMS is running rampant once again.

I'm starting to wonder why M$ is even in the console biz. Despite the billions of dollars the company has, they can't seem to do anything original to save their lives. Before the Wii and PS3's launch, it was M$ who wanted us to believe that the Wiimote will be a gimmick and Bluray was not needed for a game console(making the PS3 too expensive!). They figured that by rushing the 360 to market(even though it wasn't ready), they could get a head start. The Wii and PS3 would launch later. The PS3 being too expensive and the Wii being a fad, M$ figured they had a guaranteed victory. Here we are today and what is M$ doing? http://gizmodo.com/377855/more-xbox-360-wiimote-details-code-name-newton http://www.tomshardware.com/news/xbox-blu-ray-360,5272.html That's right, they're now going to add a motion controller and a bluray drive to the 360, LOL! If M$ wasn't such a devious, monopolizing, talentless company, I'd actually feel sorry for them. In the last few years, all they've managed to do is bring 2 PC's disguised as consoles to the market and lose 4 billion dollars. The only reason they're still here is because they have money to burn and apparently they like burning it. They offer nothing to us gamers. If the Xbox never came out, Halo would have been released on PC(like it was originally intended), Gears would have been on PC and probably the PS3, Ninja Gaiden would have been on gamecube, etc.

1) You obviously don't own a 360 and don't know what your talking about when you say it's original. You probably love your ps3.

2) Didn't Sony say the Wii mote would be a gimmick? Didn't MOST people say it would be a gimmick... (i think it is, but a very fun one).

3) The motion controls and blu ray rumours are rumours! Blu- ray still won't be used for games.

4) and now you think the 2 xbox's are pc's! I'm sorry dude, ps3 is equally a PC, you can even surf the net on it, AND PRE-INSTALL YOU GAMES!

So, instead of writing all that, you could have saved youself alot of effort in declaring how much you just hate the 360. My advice for any 360 owners reading this is to leave this thread and carry on playing our unoriginal game console lol

Agree. selnor leaves thread for the fanboys.

Wait, what has Sony ever done in the console business that's innovative? If you want to include corporate strategy and the way they partner with third party developers, I guess you might be able to include that. They probably deserve a little credit for the DualShock as well, even though Nintendo brought back analog sticks and offered rumble before Sony.

MS deserves just as much credit for integrating online play with voice chat in consoles, bringing DLC and online game stores to consoles, and integrating HDDs into every console.

This thread is fanboy fail. Sony hasn't exactly been pioneering anything in this industry lately, either. In fact, one could argue that until the Wii released, consoles had nearly sat still for an entire decade thanks to Sony. At least MS threw in a curveball with the addition of online access and voice chat, the only real console "innovation" from 1995 to 2006.

So I am re-reading your original post and looking for anywhere you have any basis for your claim. In what ways has Microsoft shown itself to be the most unoriginal developer? There is rumor that possibly they are copying the Wii motes motions sensing ability, which Sony has done. There is a rumor they are making an add-on to allow you to watch blu-ray movies much in the same way they have an add-on to let you play HD-DVD movies. Who is that copying from exactly? I don't ever remember a company allowing you to watch movies in a format not natively supported before the 360. Then we devolve into the insults. You call them talentless while they still have 80% of the market share in their main field, and have carved out a niche in the games industry. You claim that the Xbox and 360 are 2 PCs disguised as a console, but I have yet to hear of a way to check my email or type a post on either system. Then you claim they offer nothing to gamers despite the fact that they created the standard for online gaming that all other consoles are judged against, and introduced the idea of slapping a hard drive into a console that seems to be benefiting a lot of people. In other words, you have a bunch of baseless claims with no supporting arguement. Forum rule number 5 says this thread should have been locked 3 pages ago.

You'll have Sony fans tell you that dual analog sticks made them innovative or that dual rumble engines made them innovative, or that DVD made them innovative, or that Blu Ray made them innovative, or that CELL made them innovative, or that something else that already been done or is just an incremental step up is innovative.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

i heard that a games console which plays games is un-original.

Good work Ajax - that's how it's done :)

Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'

but you will always have the argument that more competition is good for a market; how do you counter that argument in this particular case MZTAZMZ

LOL, you're making this too easy!

Here goes, if M$ didn't make an xbox, we'd have Sony and Nintendo(2 companies)

2 companies = competition.

and FYI: even though 360 launched first, PS3 was in developement long before 360 was. you notice how similar the specs are

3.2 ghz multicore CPU

512MB system+GPU ram

500mhz GPU

speaking in terms of hardware only, it's obvious M$ was trying to make a cheaper and lower quality PS3. They made the simple assumption that if it looks similar on paper and the price is lower, every gamer would buy a 360 over a PS3 right? MS always thinks there's a simple stupid solution to every problem and they always bet on consumer ignorance in order to sell an inferior product(RROD)

Well the Red Ring of death is original.

Damn, can't argue with that. I wonder if Sony and Nintendo will create a RROD add-on to compete with M$.
