As the poll shows, games also in PC have no impact on the millions of strictly console gamers.

I would go so far to say that MSs approach with Xbox and PC day 1 is better then keeping games locked to one platform. The game is still a system seller because it isn’t on PlayStation. And those who don’t even plan to get an Xbox will buy the PC version.

MS found a way to get money from its customer base on top of taking money from people who don’t even like Xbox. But I doubt Sony will do the same, they seem to have a good thing going with their 1st party games.

Tell us how much consoles past PS4 did those system sellers push.

I have no problems admitting it: hard to say because Xbox One released so few. But the principle is there, and it certainly meant more revenue to MS where as they would have had even less sales if only kept to the Xbox brand.

A example is Halo Reach for MCC PC, sold a couple million week 1 from people that I would assume, had no interest in purchasing a Xbox.

We know dozens of millions of gamers simply prefer console for a variety of reasons. And there are millions who prefer strictly PC. MS can appeal to the PC crowd and at the same time appeal to console gamers on the fence between Xbox and Playstation. As someone very excited by all the new studios MS has acquired, I am very interested to see how this strategy plays out.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I initially answered this thread with a "Hell No!"

But things are a lot more complicated than I first thought. I've been spending the last few days building up a Steam wishlist for upcoming games to play on my PC. I'm just flat out shocked by the number of games that have fucking Denuvo in them! Bandai Namco, Capcom, Sega, Square Enix, and Arc System Works, all use Denuvo in the vast majority of their games. Even if the Steam Store page doesn't say a game uses Denuvo, it's often hidden in the EULA. Here's a list of all Steam games with Denuvo...

https://store.steampowered.com/curator/26095454-Denuvo-Games/

In case you don't know Denuvo is always online DRM. So the second the servers for a game go down your copy is rendered unplayable. This is bullshit, and the type of dystopian nonsense I've feared would come to gaming for years. There are still lots of games on PC without Denuvo, but it seems like if I want to play certain games without ridiculous DRM shackes I'll have to get a console copy. Specifically, games out of Japan seem to have Denuvo almost guaranteed. Couple that with the fact that many Japanese titles are outright delayed on PC for up to a year, and I think I might still need to pick up a PS5.

Oh, and don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue in favor of consoles here. They have their own problems, such as the fact that you can't repair one easily. But fuck Draconian DRM!

Steam itself is a form of DRM, but not all DRM is equal or bad. Some companies take DRM way too far and make it an inconvenience. If you want DRM-Free gaming then check out GOG. For me if there is a game I want I'll check if GOG has it, and if it does I'll buy it there. If it doesn't then I'll either buy it off Steam or from a key site that has the best price.

For me GOG -> Steam/key site.

Yep. Already know about GoG. I think I have 20-30 games on GoG now.

My PC is in my home office. My consoles are in the Alcove (my home theater room). It's simpler and more enjoyable.

Yes cheating online is to rampant on pc

It really isn't.

I guess it depends on the games you play. Rainbow six siege is filled with them. I played it on my friends PS4 you know how many people I saw get banned for cheating? Zero. There's a constant list of people getting banned when I played Rainbow. I see at least 20 players get banned every time I play. So far this ranked season I've had my rank adjusted because of cheaters they caught 3 times.

Saw more cheaters in BF4. Guy was sniping people from across the map. Maybe your not playing the kind of games where people cheat I don't know. There's a few games I've played where there doesn't appear to be cheaters but Rainbow Six is my favorite online game right now and I'm about to leave PC and go to PS4 just to get some fair games. On console cheating is basically a nonissue. It's just way to easy to cheat on PC games because of the open system.

I think that with MS releasing all their games on GamePass and PC day one the system seller status of their top franchises get a lot diminished, because there would be a small subset of people that would think "I really like exclusives, but must be from MS and I hate to play on PC".

Then by that logic GamePass in itself becomes a system seller the more games MS releases. Which would have a compounding effect with lower budget titles like Bleeding Edge and Grounded with higher budget titles like Hellblade 2 and Halo Infinite. I mean it’s already a killer deal but I see it going to the next level once MSs studios really start pumping the games out.

But even then there will always be people that stick to physical games. I wouldn’t call a console only gamer a “small subset”. Maybe this gen you’d be right with Xbox 1st party releases being spaced out too much but this year alone has a lot of MS 1st party releases. And looks like the trend will continue.

I just don't know anything about upgrading PCs or keeping up with hardware requirements for new games. I'd rather just buy a console and play my games there even if they're inferior to high-end PCs.

Gamepass also available on PC wouldn't be a system seller for XSX.

And sure many will stick to physical (I buy all relevant games physical), I'm not calling console only a small subset, but a console owner that really wants to play Xbox exclusives are a smaller subset, just look at the sales of their exclusives this gen, FM, Gears and Halo all had severe drop compared to last gen.

I'd still buy a Switch.....

Consoles will always be my choice. I have never consider playing on PC and that will never change.
