It is 3 years later just like Sony felt the need to release another console, same for Nintendo. It is the same thing. The point of calling it PS4 Pro or Xbox One X is that games were back and forward compatible. Do the same thing with the Switch 2, it doesn't matter what you call it. I like Super Switch myself.

The Xbox One X is 4x faster than the original Xbox One, it's not called the Xbox Pro either.

There is a difference between a full-on successor and a mid-gen upgrade though. A successor means software support will shift away from Switch 1, while the latter doesn't.

Next one won't be a full on successor I think. ARM and nVidia from here on out I think.

I just want Nintendo to go 3rd party and have their games on Sony and Microsoft systems.

Good luck with that. Switch is on track to be the best selling systems of all time, there's little reason for them to even consider going third party any time soon.

I love the honesty. A lot of PS/Xbox fans feel this way but they don't have the balls to say it.

Though Nintendo have the least reason of the big 3 to remain as an exclusive developer. They don't make a ton of money from third parties, they aren't making a ton of money from services. The vast majority of their profits come from the sale of their games unlike Sony/MS.

Out of the 246m software sold on the Switch over 130m of that is published by Nintendo. The point of having your own platform is Third Party revenue and Service revenue which Nintendo gets the least of the big three by an absolute landslide.

Nintendo's interest should lie in making as much money from their games as they can, and releasing to a wider audience may make them even more successful.

But yes Nintendo isn't going to release on other systems anytime soon, even though it makes more sense for them than it does for PlayStation or Xbox.

Hilarious and completely false. Money is what matters and nintendo makes a lot of it. They have no reason to even consider stopping being a first party developer. MS is the one with some actual reasons to reconsider their business choices.

That 246 million figure does not include digital only titles, which make up the majority of 3rd party titles on Switch.

But even if 3rd party and service revenue/profit is lower than the others, that is still money they would be throwing away by going 3rd party, same with hardware revenue/profit and on top of that they would start giving up 30% of their software revenue to the other platform holders.

Then there is the fact that a large amount of the Nintendo userbase prefers portable gaming which is not offered by Sony/Microsoft/Steam.

One more thing is that there isnt an existing audience on PS/XB/PC for many of the genres that Nintendo games make up. How many successful $60 platformers are there on those platforms? How many successful $60 social simulators are on those platforms? How many successful fitness, rhythm games & minigame compilations are on those platforms? Will games like Kirby, Yoshi & Donkey Kong or Animal Crossing, Tomodachi & Style Savvy or Ring Fit, Rhythm Heaven & WarioWare see notable growth on these platforms?

I'm sure the mainstream franchises like 2D/3D Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda & Pokemon could benefit but I'm not so sure about the dozens of other franchises.

Well we'll never know how much the audience could grow unless they try. They also don't have to stop making consoles to also release their games on other platforms, so those looking for a portable system could still be catered for. It really all depends on how much releasing on PC and other platforms increases sales and revenue, I do think they could actually profit more. It could be better for them, it could be worse who knows. But it's pretty clear that they aren't going to do this any time soon so we'll never know for certain.

I could easily see games like Mario Kart and BOTW selling 5m-10m if they released them on PC today. You could be looking at over $1 Billion right there.

I think Nintendo also wants control on how the platform is handled, which is more of a priority to them than services and AAA third party games. With their own consoles, they can do that. They can do things like Labo, Ring Fit, Brain Age, etc. if they are in control of the platform they have. They can create games unique to their platform (i.e., DS, 3DS, Wii, and Switch as examples). And I don't think high-end graphics are ever going to be part of their gaming development philosophy. Their main concern will always be about the gameplay experience.
