They'll probably save the PS5 reveal for a PlayStation Meeting in February 2020 similar to the PS4 reveal in 2013.

As Sony has announced: "Don’t expect any updates related to our next-gen plans in this episode."

- 3 hours of The Last of Us - Part II multiplayer

State of Play:
- Story trailer with a release date, as well as a "Stay tuned for our first look at The Last of Us - Part II's multiplayer this Thursday."

Outbreak day:
- The Last of Us - Part II multiplayer media blow out, as well as a multiplayer beta announcement.

The SoP isn't for TloU2.

Why would they do something big for the game on the 24th when they are having a massive media event for journalists ? 

The tlou2 blowout will be from their previews, not the SoP.

I agree. That’s why I’m confused as to why everyone is saying the focus of this SoP will be TLoUp2.

Did not see the announcement.  In that case, you are likely correct.

I was starting to think that Sony was going to abandon the initiative. While the previous weren't great, they certainly weren't complete failures. Hopefully the gap in them means they'll have some good things to show, because they've been incredibly quiet for too long.

They did say at the last one there was another to come. And there has been a lot of Sony news since.

Eh, I don't agree. The most noteworthy items had nothing to do with any big games or future plans. Sony purchasing Insomniac is big news, but that was the end of the news. I just looked through news again, and there hasn't been anything of note since the last State of Play in May (unless you consider MediEval going Gold noteworthy). Nothing at E3, Gamescom, PGW, PAX, or TGS. KojiPro has released some news about Death Stranding, but none of that is Sony.
