Forums - Gaming Discussion - New Mega Man game might not be 12; Kazuhiro Tsuchiya has outlined plans to keep the brand running for next 10-20 years.

  • Kazuhiro Tsuchiya has taken up the mantle of the series Producer. Hiatus of Mega Man games was because no one confident enough to take the mantle after Keiji Inafune left
  • The Mega Man project has been decided and is underway. Very low key about what is it because both the X and .EXE series were name dropped.
  • Before switching to Mega Man 11, An entirely different Mega Man project was being worked on. The details will remain secret because he still intends to do it.
  • He has a plan drafted up for brand that will keep the series active for at least a decade.

I'm still hoping for a new Mega Man X title with 16-Bit style graphics. I'm hoping for something like that ever since Mega Man 9 was announced. =/

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

If there is anything that we can be assured on is that Mega Man will be going anywhere for awhile. Next game is definitely X though, the new designs were used in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.

The team decided that striving for an extended sense of nostalgia seemed a bit off from what gamers were looking for, and decided to use new graphics to show that not only is Mega Man back, but also improved.[2][4]

I'm sure it will be the same for X as well, not to mention brand new designs for X,Zero and Axel already shown and 16bit would do them no justice.

I hope they drive the series forward, 11 was good but I want the next big leap forward for the series to be next. A new version of mega man with new characters and story.

+1 to this. I do want them to close out the X series though, not with X9, but X9 could start the final arc of the X series. I also want Legends 3 and maybe that is the project he was working on first? Probably not.

I hope that at some point we get a Mega Man Classic game that finally ties it together with the X series. MM11 was a great game, and I hope that keep that style if they choose not to go back to sprites. If Capcom ever feels like classic MM has run its course, they need to give it that grand finale that sees the timeline debut of Zero and reveals what happened to Mega Man, Dr. Light, and Dr. Wily in the decades before the events of MMX.

Inafune talked about this.

For everybody waiting for Zero to come and tear classic era apart...let it go. Zero is never awoke in the classic age and on top of that, Mega Man classic was intended to be like Mario and Sonic where its just "What is Wiley doing this time?" forever and ever. No intended end.

Im just not sure if that's a good idea. People who are already Mega Man fans and like previous games are the ones they should appeal to. I mean how do you appeal to people who don't know much about Mega Man at this point? I think its better to stick to the tried and true than giving it a bigger budget and hope more people will jump in.

Welcome back, Mega Man. Now get your ass out there and start shooting shit up!

We've had tried and true so much at this point, they need to try and actually grow the franchise a bit.

This makes no sense.

That is exactly what a brand new Mega Man series would do. Though each of the main Mega Man series are connected, they are self contained thus not needing any prior knowledge. Just to let you know man, there are a lot of Mega Man fans whose first game was X, Zero and Battle Network are also have a lot of starters.

Developers should never ever just appeal to fans because eventually those fans will move on. There was a point in time where Inafune had to prompt fans to buy 100k copies of ZX:A just to continue the series. That's how low the fanbase got, 100k wasnt locked, that is what happens when games are only made for fans.
