No sir there won't be a Sunset Overdrive 2 for Microsoft. If Sony bought the studio, why would you think that a partnership with MS for future games can still happen?! That would be like Sony partnering with Ninja Theory for a future title. That ain't happening without MS. Same difference here. So unless Microsoft went to Sony and got permission to commission it, SO2 won't be dropping for MS/Xbox.

He's saying if Sony didn't buy them then Sunset Overdrive 2 exclusive to Xbox could have happened.

Oh okay I definitely misunderstood his statement.

ok first off to people saying why buy a studio that was already making Playstation Exclusives? i dont think that sony didnt knew that, IMO the reason sony bought them was the turn around development time, Insomniac has the highest number of exclusives in any playstation generation Ps3 had 3 resistance games 4 R&c in span of 7 years, not to mention there was fuse.

coming to this gen multiple VR titles song of deep, SSO, Ratchet & clank, spiderman..

also i hardly think it was reactionary move to MS, more logical would be to say sony bought insomniac so that google didnt buy them out for stadia

Yeah they're quite a big studio, usually working on 2-3 different projects at any given time. Now they can work on smaller budget VR games for Playstation as well as Spiderman/Ratchet. Dedicating all there staff to Playstation, rather than working on multiple platforms.

And most importantly they can dial their engine to max without worrying about multi-platform compatibility

Insomniac will do as they please. Sony is not microsoft, which means they will have creative control over their projects and most likely have options to work on passion projects. Of course, this this depends on the return they give Sony.

The biggest problem I see with the logic of Xbox and how they view Microsoft’s value for ips, it’s horribly wrong and has either left them dependent or stagnant. Microsoft needs to be courting devs they can make NEW games with. They need to feel comfortable with microsoft letting them be in control of their projects.

I doubt ms would’ve been able to buy insomniac, the way their exclusives for single player games have been selling. They sold 13 million copies with Sony. This is a match made in heaven.

I don't think the purchase is as valuable to MS given Sony owns their best work.

Insomniac is probably gonna be the Spiderman studio for now, maybe with some other projects on the side. MS wouldn't be able to make Spiderman games simply by owning Insomniac.

I do think MS is trying to correct that, which is partly why they went on the buying spree: it gives them IP options in different genres going forward.

That said, I do agree with you that Insomniac will be able to choose their projects but they will nonetheless need to justify said projects existence before getting the go-ahead.

Insomniac doing more Spider-man shouldn't even be a problem since they were the ones who chose SM in the first place. That said, a core reason for buying Insomniac would be their output rate. By the time Insomniac is done with SM (I guess after a trilogy), they should have gotten out a new IP that has strong sales.

Honestly I don't think Remedy would be a great purchase for Sony for the price...they already have their games and I don't see it as a system seller/must have games. I'd go for something more unique and probably cheaper like Larian Studios, Dontnod, Frogwares...

But I want for Sony to acquire From Software, Guerilla Games, Housemarque and Tarsier Studios because Little Nightmares is simply a master piece.

Why isn't Sony acquiring the studios I want it to acquire?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Insomniac is nice too, I loved the Ratchet and Clank games.

It would be savage if Sony purchased From Software. Absolutely savage.

But it likely won't happen. Not unless Sony is prepared to make a hefty purchase.

What if I were to harass Sony with a ton of messages and tweets and whatnot till they get tired and purchase FromSoftware just to shut me up?

 Considering how impossible it is...

Remedy is looking really possible for the next candidate.

Agreed one of MS's main issues IMO is if you make a good selling game for them they don't seem to want to let that studio do anything else but keep pumping out sequels till the end of time. Gears of War to me was a great series but MS just kept pumping them out with no end in sight. After 3 games I thought that was good and they should have put it to rest for a long time after that but they just keep going.
