Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anyone else notice a lot of gaming news channels tend to avoid Nintendo talk?

Last I hear Nintendo has started to loosening up with this kind of stuff.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

YouTube is an echo chamber of our own making. Seek out what you want and you will find it, and then some. Like others have mentioned, if you dial into a few channels like SpawnWave, BeatEmUps, Arlo, WulffDen, RuleofTwo, etc, then you'll get plenty of Nintendo info. And many of those will even give you some Sony/Microsoft info, albeit in small doses.

Probably because of Nintendo’s tendency to attack popular channels that criticize their products in any way. For a lot of popular content creators, that’s their livelihood, and they’re not interested in losing money because they dare say that the latest Mario Party isn’t that great.

I follow a lot of Nintendo/JRPG's centric channels on Youtube (Spawn Wave, SomeonecallmeJonhy,Arlo,Gamexplain, etc ...) and it seems that a lot of people I do follow on Twitter do have interest for Nintendo content. So, I do understand your point but from my own perspective, this isn't the case, imo.

That’s my experience as well. I’ve seen a plethora of Nintendo content. And even during the years when Nintendo wanted to monetize YouTube videos, they did work with YouTubers in presenting their content. JWittz is known for Pokemon/Nintendo content and was one of the guys who presented Pokemon Go at E3 2016. Game Theorists collaborated with Reggie and Miyamoto. Even Rosanna Pansino had Miyamoto as a guest for one of her videos baking some Mario related goodies. So it was not like Nintendo hated YouTubers, just wanted to control the message for better or worse. And even then, their Nintendo Directs have a plethora of views that should have given them great word of mouth over the years.

They lost there chance when they failed to understand social media and tried to set up their own network to monetize others work. People were afraid and now that they have opened it up it hasn't made much of an impact on rectifying the situation in their favour.

This

I remember a huge rant from AngryJoe because they copyrighted a bunch of his videos even he was talking positively about their products.

I think he even said he would give up covering things Nintendo back then. So I assume this happened to other channels and they also gave up.

Well for 1 most people really just don't care and 2 yes the demonitization issues.

At this point I mostly watch Spawn Wave, but ocassional I look at other channels. All the ones I look at mention Nintendo in some way or another. I'm sure there are channels that don't mention Nintendo, but I just haven't visited them.

Definitely has to do with demonitizationas Nintendo is among the most vigilant with with claiming content on YouTube without care for fair use usage.

^This. Nintendo doesn't quite grasp how the internet works. They even think people wanted voice chat on Switch via a smartphone app.

Spoiler!

Their Directs, however, show that Nintendo does have an idea on how the Internet works. Maybe not the full idea, or maybe its something they, as a business culture, are not considering. I just have a hard time knowing key members like Koizumi, Aonuma, Takahashi, Nogami, etc. have little knowledge of the Internet. And didn't Nintendo sort of monetize videos on NicoNico, the Japanese equivalence to YouTube? I wonder how was that received?

Edit: Nintendo has lifted its Nintendo Youtube Creators Program last year.
