AAA PC games of multiplatform games benefit from better resolution, higher performance and sometimes even additional high quality texture packs. Add to that the freedom and versatility of the platform, using the peripheral you want, mods and more there is really no need to "entice" people to buy a PC just because some games look slightly prettier. That's not even mentioning the proprietary graphics technologies that can be used in games, like proper RT, AA and additional physics.

Even the prettiest and well optimized game on console will be massively hurt by garbage performance and the extreme restrictiveness of the platform it's on. The latter two are the main reason to prefer to play games on PC.

To a degree I guess, because there are also crappy ports, powerwise,  for example XBX1 is holding on surprisingly good. Sony's AAA games are top notch graphically, despite the PS4 being old thrashy HW. The Last of Us Part 2 will be a new step in technology of gaming, everybody understand this.

Ray Tracing is supported just by a few games, so its not a factor so far. As always, new tech become a thing when consoles adhere to it.

Platfrom restrictivess? Steam is not any better for devs/customer than console manufacters ( this is a huge letdown if we compare how it was in the past ), we have things that are limited to only one producer, biased optimalisation than favors unfairly, mostly the more expensive GPUS and the list go on.

Star Citizen has a lot of trouble, perhaps next gens will arrive earlier.

The only good things that happens for PC as a gaming platform is the huge batch of console games, thanks to AMD unificiation, and MS is one of the biggest publisher on the market now. The rest is the silence.

I'm sorry, but what?.

Viv didn't specifically say "Steam only", but you did. PC isn't Steam only, it's more than just Steam, and even then Steam supports the modding community, which is something non existent on consoles.

before Steam we didn't even have good bargain sales, or CD key sites offering really good deals, so your "back in my day it was objectively better" is just plain silly and untrue.

What "things that are limited to one producer"?. What does that even mean by "one producer"?.

"biased optimization"?. Last I checked, AMD and Nvidia released drivers for the cards they were selling, not ancient ass old cards that aren't on the market today.

Star Citizen is chugging along just fine, in case you haven't already checked, but I guess you haven't at all, going by your other baseless comments.

wow, that last comment. Holy moly are you not trying to hide your very title namesake.

Could you be any more dishonest and brutally wrong/biased yourself?.

Yes, I'm going to call you out, because it's blatantly made in a response to put down the open platform, that has done and still does so much more for gaming, in regards to you trying to make your box of choice as being somehow "superior".

I thought this kind of garbage would have stopped when Kero was gone, but no, it's still here, with someone else instead.

No need 2b sorry mate, I just wanted to avoid a wall of text, but here we go.

So ofc there are other eshops than Steam, thank God, the competition is back on the market, but I think it kinda backfired at PC gamers so far. Epic is doing it wrong way so far imo. Time will tell, but lets not make it too long.

The Workshops and free mods are a pros of PC market, but to some extent it is also on consoles, like the Skyrim mods, or even userfeedback projects like PS4's Dreams. I talk only about legal mods, because CFM does a lot of tricks.

And of course there are things that consoles do and PC doesn't - in general - like a retail games for example.

The discounts on PC market are now comparable to PS/Xbox deals, it was totally not like that during PS360 era. Not to even mention the new PC games' price is mostly on par with console counterparts,at least here where I do live, Steam tax pushed things up.Of course there can be other areas where things are diferent, Im speaking my POV.

By biased optimalisation I mean the games that are AMD or Nvidia " friendly", last time it was picked up during Ryzen7/9:Navi presentation. There is more of it, like Rise of The Tomb Raider but it is enough for now.

You are guessing wrong if you think that Star Citizen is in any form of good shape. But this is the story for the whole new thread and it will not be baseless. Not a single bit.

I dont know any Kero, but if he/she was clever enough to pick up obvious points, I would shake a hand.

If a game is available on PC, I will always pick it for PC, as the dude above said, there are several advantages for picking multiplats on PC, higher resolution/frame rates/higher res textures/modding support and freedom to choose the peripheral you want. (Even if I have to wait: I didn't Buy GTA5 when it released for PS3, waited for the PC release and it was worth it, Have a PS4 just for the 1st party exclusives).

But is is a matter of affordability, if you can afford a gaming pc and its upgades from times to times, ok. But I am if favor of console only players and even cloud in the future if it can bring high quality games at a low cost for the ones that already have internet set, but either have a low spec pc or only play mostly on portable devices.

Month old. There are more titles to add to the list.

The mod scene is absolutely exploding, adding Ray Tracing to older games right now.

Silence? Not really. Lots happens on the platform constantly, you probably aren't a part of the PC gaming circles and tend to gravitate towards console ones... Competitive gaming is absolutely monstrously large on PC for instance... With millions of dollars often waved as the prize pool.

PC was always getting lots of console ports even in the PS1/N64 days when we got games like Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, Destruction Derby, South Park, Earthworm Jim, Metal Gear Solid, Oddworld, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat and a heap more...

So it started far before AMD gained a foothold in the console space.

The reverse holds true as well where consoles got a heap of PC titles like Quake, Unreal Tournament, Doom, Elder Scrolls, StarCraft, Age of Empires, Cities, Deus Ex, Crysis, FarCry and so on... All the platforms have benefited from each other in terms of games, Microsoft for instance managed to gain titles like Final Fantasy and Grand Theft Auto that was seen as Playstation games.

--::{PC Gaming Master Race}::--

I'm not sure I understand the question and what your description is pointing towards.

But no game can "use the max power" for PC because new more powerful parts come out on a regular basis. Even when a game is "more optimized" for consoles the PC version will always run better. The point of PC gaming is to game the way you want. You want more "power" for your PC to have more options then go for it. If you don't want more power then you don't need to upgrade. The point of PC gaming is it gives you, the consumer more freedom than a console, and you don't need to be held back from the low spec consoles to play your games at higher graphical settings, higher resolution, and higher frame rates. This is why a lot of gamers will say the PC is the way to go even if they don't game on it.

The restrictiveness I meant was for the consumer, not the developer. Which was the whole point of my argument. A prettier game on a console is useless because it's on a console and as such robs me of all my freedoms I've come accustomed to. Of course developers are also massively restricted in both content and fidelity.

A pretty game on console that runs at 30fps is useless.

A pretty game on console that forces me to use a controller for a shooter is useless.

A pretty game on console that restricts me from upgrading my platform to achieve greater fidelity is useless.

PC doesn't need highly optimized games to be attractive to players. If you want high fidelity and choice it's the default platform to go to because consoles won't let you do anything. A highly optimized game on console that uses the newest technologies, best animations and highest budgets will still look ugly to me if it runs on fist sized pixels and 12fps.

And let's not forget that 99% of games on console look better on PC. The exclusive AAA games that use the hardware to its fullest extent make up only a tiny portion of the whole offering. I can live with "missing out" on 1% of games. There are a couple of games I would've loved to play or actually have tried to play but it's simply not fun playing with something that's utterly mutilated by its hardware and platform.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

most pc gamers have modest rigs so i doubt you will get any true exclusive that pushes it hard on pc.

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

"thank god the competition is back on the market"?.

What?. We've had shops on PC for years. We've had GoG for years, hell Origin has been around for years now and even Uplay. This isn't something that just cropped up 2-3 years ago either.

Even before PC existed we had stores, physical stores selling PC games, but these days?, naw, it's down to digital distribution for the most part, and you can see that by walking into any GAME uk store and seeing for yourself.

I don't see how it's "backfired" for PC gamers "so far". We've had amazing deals over the years with Steam and GoG alone. We've had good deals with third party sites like GmG and CD keys.

Epic is doing it wrong, because they don't care. They don't want anyone else to be around. I've said it before, Epic wants to be the store, not a store. Everyone else is content or at least fairly happy being a store, to a point where they aren't going out of their way to make cutthroat deals that greatly affect the consumer and competition as a whole.

The workshop and mod support on PC is quite unparalleled. Consoles get a slight bit of mod support via games like Skyrim SE and Fallout 4, but only thanks to Beth's built in, heavily curated and even half store based mod support. Like on PC, I don't have to pay for Chinese Stealth armor, but on consoles, if you really want it, and it's not on the free section of beth's mod support, but on their "creation store", then you're out of luck and certainly out of quality (because beth's own Chinese stealth armor for example, is vastly inferior to the mod created one, which is entirely free).

Actually no, PC still has games sold at retail outlets. The only difference being (and this has been a thing for decades, nothing new), is that you cannot return a PC game that has used an activation code or a digital code bought in-store, but even then, game devs aren't exactly happy sunshine & rainbows with customers buying their games second hand, because they hardly see the profits from that, so it's not really a "good" thing, especially for someone like me, who wants a game new and not having a disc scratched by someone, who clearly couldn't take care of said game disc, or box.

The discounts on PC vs console are still different. Just looking at only one console type deal, and trying to compare it to the myriad out there on PC, is frankly not the same. "Steam tax" hasn't actually pushed prices up at all either. I go to GoG and see prices of new games, that can also be on Steam and other outlets, and still cost the same, so it's not solely due to just "steam tax". YOu could also use that argument for higher prices of console games, being solely attributed to "Sony/MS/Nintendo tax". Look at Skyrim when it came out on Switch, they wanted a practical £55-60 for it, and meanwhile, I got SSE on PC for free, while console folk had to pay for their copy of SSE.

Yeah, because AMD and Nvidia pay for that sort of thing. Games that run well on Nvidia hw, means AMD have to pay for devs to work with them to get it to run better on their hw. Devs aren't a charity service. What on earth do you mean by "it is enough for now"?.

No, you're guessing wrong, for simply poking your head into a game you clearly don't give two shits about and offering a steam hot take on it, as well as anyone else on this forum that has also done the same before. Yes it will be baseless mate, simple as. You're not going to change your attitude and instead run your mouth, so get ready to be called out for it, and then some, because I will be there for when that happens.

Nah, you've known kero for some time now. You try to live up to your title, your forum name and I'm going to be honest, it's pretty sad.

Arma3, Total War Series.

Thats pretty much it. Unfortunate what happened to the PC as a gaming platform. It has become a console substitute.

There are entire genre's of games that are missing on console, so how can it be a console substitute?

Yes. And the ones worth mentioning (see Thread Title!) you can count on one hand.

Otherwise id ve plenty to play, right? Right.
