Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Luigi's Mansion 3 originally made for Wii U

https://www.nintendoenthusiast.com/2019/06/16/luigis-mansion-3-was-prototyped-on-the-wii-u-says-kensuke-tanabe/

"I always mention this to Next Level Games when we start working on a new game. When we’re creating a new game, we always want to include some sort of new element. These moves were actually something we came up with when we were working on the Wii U version, and something that Next Level Games came up with. When they made a prototype and let us use Slam and Burst, it was just so satisfying when you played it. So, when we saw this, we said ‘Well, the game’s pretty much done.’ "

There were rumors about a L.M game on Wii U, weren't there at some point? Also I wonder if this might have some indication on the whereabouts on the infamous Pikmin 4.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

The vast majority of games being made never see the light of day, or are shelved for later. It's just how good game design works. So this is not surprising at all.

I'm still a bit confused though. Is Next Level Games working on this, or is it one of Nintendo's In-House Studios? Either way it looks fun!

Thread title is a little misleading.

They had an early prototype running on the Wii U. It's not like the final game will be a holdover from Wii U though, work on that version likely would've ended before 2016, as by that point the writing was well and truly on the wall for Wii U while development of Switch projects was kicking off.

What we'll be getting later this year will have been built pretty much entirely for Switch.

I thought Next Level Games was an in-house Nintendo studio.

They've proven themselves good enough to make Mario sports games, Luigi's Mansion games, and Punch-Out, so what other Nintendo properties should they take a crack at?

If I remember correctly they're still independent but signed a exclusive contract deal with Nintendo

Is the contract extending to Luigi's Mansion 3, or did they renew their contract with Nintendo for it?

There's conflicting sources as to whether NLG actually signed a contract to become a second party studio or whether they just decided to work with Nintendo exclusively while remaining independent.

Whatever the case, the result is more of less the same; they're either officially second party, or effectively second party in all but name.

Metroid Prime Federation Force 2

I wish Nintendo didn't abandon WiiU like they did, there is really no reason for lot of their Switch games not to have WiiU versions.

Do you realize how backwards that sounds?

No.

They abandoned WiU in favor of Switch, technically there's no reason for something like SMO not being on WiiU.

I cam't believe this. The game looks so into the graphics and gameplay... But i think that Switch is perfectly future of this and other mario-based games.

*Super Missile's you in the face* I'd actually like to see another Punch-Out from them.

Hey, take out the Metroid name and we will have a decent shooter
