Forums - Movies & TV - Can Avengers: Endgame take the #1 spot beating Avatar? ...It just did !!!!

Will Avengers:Endgame beat Avatar?

Yes 68 80.00%

No 17 20.00%

Total:85

Isn't inflation-adjusted Gone with the Wind, like, way above 3 billion? More than half of it in the US too...

Adjusted Avatar should be a bit higher than its numbers nowadays, as well.

Edit - somewhat sad to think the next Avatar and Star Wars are the most likely candidates for $2 billion+ and Disney is the only one profiting and pocketing all that entertainment money.

Second fake edit - at the same time, buying Marvel and Lucasfilm for some $4 billion each was the best entertainment industry deal of all time.

Hard to say. I can see it potentially having one of the biggest drop offs as everyone wanted to know how it ended ASAP. where as infinity wars i waited till week 8 to see it and there was plenty of people there still.

On the one had Avatar was also cheaper for standard version, and the new way of presenting 3D had that going for it everywhere when in the past you had to go to a specific cinema to watch 3D, so people paid an extra $5 to see it in 3D. Well especially in Australia, I think it is the only movie to crack 100million, in comparison infinity wars didn't get to 50million.

Saying all that i think it will get there. If it gets close i'll go watch it again lol

It actually made more than Infinity War ? Looks like people just bothered to watch the conclusion and that's it ....

Maybe more people pirated infinity wars early on where as end game they all wanted to watch the end on the big screen.

Also I am sure some peopel have seen it 3-4 times, i herd a few talking about it in line lol.

Only for the US, though. We can't exactly extrapolate for WW since ticket price inflation was different for every country. Though that somewhat confirms Gone With the Wind is perhaps almost at $4 billion, assuming the inflation rates as an average don't deviate too much worldwide.

Edit - other poster confirmed it. Cool.

Clearing $2 billion in two weeks is just insane. The other movies that have cleared $2 billion took about 50 weeks or so to do it. Even if Endgame is front loaded it only needs about 30%-ish more to beat Avatar. So, I think it's pretty much a given. The real question is "will it reach $3 billion"?

Passing Avatar is an absolute given at this point. Passing $3B also shouldn't be very difficult for it. It's an absolute monster overseas. It'll probably crap out around 3.3-3.5 billion.

I think Infinity War just had a lot of people watch it at Home, loved it and had to see this one in theaters. Some movies are better on big screen and they missed out on Infinity War.

Agreed, Infinity War and Endgame are one of the few movies that deserve to be watched on the big screen.

Pre-ordering my Infinity Gauntlet collection (4K, UHD, Blu-Ray, 3D, and digital combo/with lenticulars please) now...

It's not a matter of 'if', but 'when'. I expect it to happen by the end of its 4th weekend and then it should crack 3 billion by its 5th or 6th weekend.
After that, there's no telling what its final tally will be.
