Hello everyone, been a while since I did a thread like this, but after beating Final Fantasy 9 and enjoying it a lot more than I expected, I am determined to play, beat, and review all the Final Fantasy games, Zelda games, and Dragon Quest games I can. And, if I'm going to do that, why not compare how I feel about each game and each series as a whole? I'm only going to include mainline games and expansions, not spinoffs. I'll just keep updating this thread like I do to my Star Wars vs. Star Trek vs. Stargate thread.

Why the thread? I think it would be fun for people to talk about their preferences and submit/update their own lists of beating these games and reviewing them to see what they think. I enjoy sharing what I think about games and I also like to compare series that are rivals to each other so please contribute if you have any thoughts!

Every Zelda game I've reviewed:

Skyward Sword - 98

Breath of the Wild - 94

Minish Cap - 92

Windwaker HD - 91

Links Awakening - 90

Twilight Princess - 90

A Link Between Worlds - 83

A Link to the Past - 79

Ocarina of Time 3D - 74

Oracle of Ages - 74

Four Swords Anniversary Edition - 55

Average: 83.6%

Every Final Fantasy Game I've Reviewed:

Final Fantasy 7 - 92

Final Fantasy 9 - 78

Average: 85%

Every Dragon Quest Game I've Reviewed:

Dragon Quest 1 - 94

Dragon Quest 11 - 92

Dragon Quest 2 - 81

Average: 89%

Anyway, as I continue to update my list, feel free to share your thoughts to have your own list in the comments that you update periodically! I'm absolutely certain we all have different lists and that mine will probably make some people pretty fired up about their own opinions but let's keep it friendly! I'm a story obsessed person, so that is something that always boosts a game or destroys one in my mind (if they don't have one or it is bad), but I understand not everyone thinks this way! I look forward to playing more Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest to see, in my opinion, which is superior! As of right now Dragon Quest is KILLING it, which I am surprised about!

You are in for a threat with all the Final Fantasy games.

A threat or a treat? Should I be scared or excited?

Also, I can't seem to find Final Fantasy 1 or 2 on Steam, so any suggestions? I'd like it if they all came to Switch, as I love playing it while moving around my house or on the treadmill, but alas.

A threat.

Story-wise, Final Fantasy games are only connected if they have weird titles like X-2 (a sequel to X), so you can play them in any order and go through the games that are on Switch first.

Yeah I did see that, though I like to think they are part of some multi-verse at the very least, but I don't know anything other than 9 as of now. I did think to play them in Switch release order, but then I suspect it would be hard to enjoy the older games if I wait too long to play them, so why not chronologically? Still, I don't even know where to play FF1 and FF2...

They are different games. Zelda is an action RPGs and the FF is a traditional J RPG series. In terms of quality the first 10 FF entries gave Zelda a run for its money....then Sakaguchi left and the series has been on a pedestrian run since. Zelda has remained excellent so Zelda wins it for me.

There was a time where this would have been really close for me. Then Final Fantasy XIII happened shooting FF in the foot. Then Breath of the Wild happened which raised Zelda's standing tremendously and now it's not even a contest.

Signature goes here!

FFXIII was the last straw for me... XII wasn't a bad game but it wasn't FF either. Sakaguchi and Uematsu departing the series really took its soul. As you say Zelda has maintained a level of excellence.

Final Fantasy, without question. Zelda is great, but Final Fantasy as a whole is better as far as I'm concerned. Both have their high and low points, but in general I've always enjoyed Final Fantasy more, with every game from VI to X being among my all time favourite games.

While I love BoTW, the story of the game was weak for someone like me. I'm looking forward to the stories of the FF games :)

Interesting that others disagree in this thread. I can't wait to find out what I think :)

Zelda has never been really about story telling

FFVI-X are better much better in that regard.
