Okay, I'm gonna try and wrap this up. It wasn't a serious accident, it wasn't spreading hate speech, but I feel Twitch is in a position where they have to do something to appease people. The TOS is exercised when they feel it needs to be or more importantly when they want it to be, its a choice. The same goes for laws, not everybody is punished the same.

Well the US has the most diverse population as far as I'm aware. I really don't need people from less diverse countries telling me we should more diverse. Frankly, I'm all for merit based immigration regardless of color.

No, you're lecturing me and making assumptions. You're upset the n-word is used in a neutral manner by black people and other groups, you have the impression I'm okay with this and you say I promote this. In reality, I'm saying this is the way it is and I'd be fine with black people no longer saying the n-word. However, its not uncommon to see black people use the n-word, they trivialize it and I don't really care. I don't feel it causes any real harm.

Uh huh, my concern is physical harm. You don't believe in freedom of speech so its hard for you to accept this idea.

Except Twitch have told people for a while what the TOS are and the consequences for breaking them they don't have to appease anyone because by now the rules have long been set hence why he was instantly banned when it happened with out anyone calling for it.

Yet less diverse countries handle the situations much better so yes you can still take notes on things.

No you're being educated on the truth of the matter it's you who is upset hence why you started labeling people who don't share your stance I simply shot down your notion that black people are perfectly fine with the word they aren't the fact you think it causes no harm says it all.

I believe in freedom of speech but unlike you I understand it doesn't equate to freedom of consequence something you're struggling to grasp, harm comes in many forms you ignoring all other types of harm doesn't make them any less serious.

"he was instantly banned when it happened with out anyone calling for it." Heh, you think Twitch is omniscient? Safe bet it was called for.

UK is a tiny country and the US isn't exactly the same everywhere. Different cities have unique problems, refer to Chicago.

Again, people use the n-word in a neutral manner. I understand that upsets you, but people do it anyway. I don't feel its harmful, many who say it evidently don't, whatever. Regardless, I'm sure I will continue to hear it plenty in public. But I'm sure you will blame me for encouraging this behavior I have nothing to do with.

"I believe in freedom of speech as long as people are punished for saying anything deemed offensive or intolerant. Free speech works best when its heavily regulated and those who share thoughts that aren't approved by government are in jail."

Twitch doesn't owe anybody a platform. And, he knew, or should have known, that this is against the rules. So, I don't feel sorry for him.

All of humanity, it seems, is in this super-sensitive, ridiculously PC climate right now, whether anyone likes it or now. Everyone should be aware of that, and act accordingly.

The sensitivity goes pretty much both ways, I've seen so many threads in this forum about how bad feminists, LGBT, liberals, lefties, "SJWs" are.
The ratio is probably 1:20, at least since CaptainExplosion is baned from creating political topics

It looks like his ban ends tomorrow. I guess that settles it then.

He posted an update on his Twitter.

You clearly don't use Twitch enough as the are numerous cases where the streamer is banned straight away.

As I've said its use is ignorant as the word has only one purpose and that is a slight you don't feel it's harmful as the word isn't directed at demeaning you as a person but I'm willing to guess that given your distaste for the left things from that camp likely do get to you as you seem riled by them. You have nothing to do with it yet here you are inserting your support for its use.

Here's news for you mate free speech has always been regulated especially in the so called land of the free go ahead and say you want to kill Trump you can be tried for treason a concept many like yourselves who hide behind free speech defence struggle to grasp is that it doesn't mean free of consequence.

And this is the point of a ban. It's a cool down moment. He is acknowledging his shortcoming and is being respectful of those he inadvertantly offended. The upload regarding his reinstatement was the best where it truly feels like he understands that his flippant actions have emotional impacts on people, particularly those he really didn't mean to offend or insult. It seems he hopes to grow and move on from this most likely very rare and silly dallyance with the negative side of the internet.

Ultimately I think he probably stands to benefit from the ban as more people probably know who he is now. From here it's a matter of which of those people he hopes to keep: those who championed his right to "leak" that word on his account, or those who are hoping he just moves on and lets it be an anomoly on his account and one which he won't repeat. Here's to hoping he goes for the latter, particularly for the sake of his account and those who enjoy his streaming.

".All non blacks use the word in a derogatory tone and never with good intentions."

so black people always use this word in one way and white people always use it in another?

can you elaborate further?

I'm black and have been friends with many black people and we never greet each other saying ni**er. I don't know what world you live in where they do. Unless you're somehow confused and think the word "nigga" is the same as saying "ni**er" hint, it's not.

"I'm black and have been friends with many black people and we never greet each other saying ni**er. "

did i say that was the case?

are you and your friends a representative portion of all black people?

" Unless you're somehow confused and think the word "nigga" is the same as saying "ni**er" hint, it's not."

what do you mean?

"The sensitivity goes pretty much both ways"

well uh not really

on the one hand you have a group of people who are constantly trying to place more restrictions on other people using the force of authority(which depending on the context is not inherently bad) and on the other side you have people who are protesting against that

i don't really think it makes sense to compare the two

Based on the video I saw, it seems impossible for Twitch to have known unless it was brought to their attention. It popped up for less than a second and it was tiny text. If you disagree though, that's fine.

You say the n-word is only used for one purpose, but its used in a neutral manner as well. This fact negates your point, you just feel different. I'm not gonna argue about how you feel.

I'm Hispanic and I've been called racial epithets. A coworker jokingly called me a dirty Mexican the other day and I laughed. I'm not supporting anything, I'm just not gonna pretend these words have any power on their own. If you think the n-word actually hurts people its because you feel the word on its own is dangerous, I disagree. I think racist actions matter, not so much words. Especially if they're used in jest which I feel they can be.

You always go to extreme examples. I'm certainly opposed to death threats or calls for violence, that's pretty much where the US draws the line on free speech. However, I feel putting someone in jail for teaching a dog to do a Nazi salute is a terrifying thing a tyrannical government might do.

I've been using the word my whole life and I will continue to do so in private conversations. I know the definition of racism and I know I am not a racist. Words mean nothing without context.

And the fact that some words are not allowed to be spoken even outside of their context is inherently wrong. It's despicable and narrow minded.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm not surprised at all. I read a news article today that hand shakes are gonna be banned because it could lead to sexual harassment.
People are just getting worst at being offended over everything.
At this stage, what we need is to all be dressed in a grey uniform that doesn't reveal body shape and hides gender. Probably a face cover with a speaking device that speaks at a neutral volume level and makes sure only none offensive basic language is used. The unit will also be equipped with a sensor that alerts you if you enter within 1 metre radius of another human, avoiding potential rape.
