NS a great console but so far behind the curve most tvs wont cater to its resolution in a few years.

lol

My 4k once exploded because it couldn’t handle VHS anymore.

Mate we all know your angle on the Switch already this was your initial outlook on it.

I can give you one reason why Switch won't drop off like you think it has the whole damn dedicated portable market to itself the 74m+ 3DS owners and 16m+ Vita owners have to go somewhere for their dedicated portable fill, even with overlap and owners of multiple units factored in that potentially 80m users (NS may ship half of that total by the end of this quarter) both PS5 and X4 would have to sell more than that each and considering Xbox's performance outside of the US good luck in that happening.

Thanks, that was a great read

PS5 will be a beast of console in terms of spec & developers support, this time will also have the best VR experience, while I think Xbox will become even more marginal. Why? Because Microsoft can't beat Sony anymore on the console market while on the streaming side of things will have an hard time competing with Google Stadia.

Nintendo, in order to compete with Sony in the next-gen, absolutely needs a Switch 2 that is compatible with games of the current model and also a quite high specs, such as about 4 tflops in handheld mode and about 6-7 tflops in docked mode. This will grant Switch 2 ports from PS5, at a lower res and without raytracing, but fully playable at a nice resolution and high fps.

I think the best you can hope for in the next couple of years is a Switch Pro that uses a Tegra Xavier. That should at least get them past 1 Tflops docked.  I mean, maybe Nvidia will make a Tegra that will get it past 2 Tflops docked, but that's still a ~10 Tflops difference between it and the PS5. Not to mention the huge gap in CPU power.  A cut in just resolution isn't going to be enough.

As for a Switch 2, given that Nintendo said they want this gen to last longer for them, I doubt we'll see that until 2023 or 2024.  Maybe then there will be a chipset that can deliver that kind of power, but we'll have to wait and see.

i'm rooting for microsoft next gen, sony's next console might be great technically, but sony's adoption of sjw insanity tells me they need to get humbled again
also having a pc as my gaming device means its better for me if ms does well anyway, since i get every "exclusive" at higher quality otherwise i'd root for nintendo

A 4 TFlops handheld is absolutely impossible right now, and will be for the foreseeable future. The cooler alone for such a chip would weight at least as much as the Switch does and be 3 times the size. Plus, the battery life would be around 5 Minutes with such a powerful hardware. Even in 5 years we won't have come close to that in a format compact enough for a modern handheld device. In 10 years, technology will be far enough, but even then, I doubt it would be really affordable enough for a handheld that powerful, with Moore's law slowly fading.

The only time a MS console has surpassed a Nintendo one thus far is the original Xbox (well and Wii U if you count that) and this was largely because of how much Nintendo dropped the ball with those consoles, and even then it barely edged it out Cube by a couple million.

How did Nintendo drop the ball with Gamecube?  The hardware seemed fine, more powerful than the PS2, the most comfortable modern controller I've ever had in my hands, solid 3rd party support, solid in-house support.

The Xbox achieved rough parity with Nintendo because they had an excellent exclusive lineup, the first good online service, the best hardware (original controller excluded), and Halo kicking them into high gear out of the gates.  I'd give Microsoft its props for successfully breaking into the industry more than marginalize Nintendo for trying one last time to compete head-to-hear with Sony before abandoning the spec wars and going niche.

I like really the Gamecube in its own way (hell it's in part of my name), but it had plenty of flaws. Weird controller, lame lunchbox design, mini disc format, and not a particularly strong library overall, even from Nintendo. Even most of the quality games the Cube did had had sort of a niche appeal (Tales of Symphonia, F-Zero GX, Eternal Darkness, etc). Didn't have a great mainline Mario or Zelda game until the final months of its life with Twilight Princess.

I also saw the Gamecube as Nintendo trying to play Sony/MS's game rather than just do their own thing, (emphasising horsepower and similar style games) which they don't excel at as much as their NES/Wii route of being more distinct. Despite it being weird in design it was still largely a red ocean console, and this was just too crowded of a battlefield in the early 2000s.

I think its still to early to tell. Bur right now im expecting Switch to be end up around 80-90m. PS5 around 110m and the next xbox around 60-65m.

Why you ask?

Its quite simple really as seen in the interview the PS5 is build to be futureproof and has a solid predecessor in the PS4.

The XB4 in the other corner, is rumored to be weaker and doesnt have the same library and most games will be playable on pc anyway. Besides how strong will the brand be after the flipflop known as the XBO.

And then we have the NS a great console but so far behind the curve most tvs wont cater to its resolution in a few years. Doubtfull if even the NSpro will handle stable 1440p/60fps. And ofcourse half its sales have been made in the current gen.

Thus my expectation for next gen which will result saleswise in the order Ps5>xb4>nsw

How is the PS5 more future proof than the ps4? Wasn't the PS4 supposed to last ten years?

The Xbox has by FAR the highest ceiling of any of the big three because of all the companies they've been buying. Their software output next cycle is going to make Sony and Nintendo look like jokes, and I say this as a Nintendo Fan first and foremost. The PC part is going to appeal to PC gamers and is going to lead to even more software sales, which is really the only thing that matters since hardware rarely profits much and often is sold at a loss or break even.

You really think in a few years (which means 3), that TVs won't do 1080p? HAHA. 4k resolution, I bet, won't be even 50% adopted by 2022. Nintendo is fine. The Switch is fine. And the Switch 2.0 will be fine.

I can't even comprehend any of this.

Microsoft has been buying excellent game studios for decades and has practically nothing to show for it. Best example would be taking Rare, the king of 3rd party N64 games, during the 6th gen. What has Rare produced in the almost 20 years since then? Practically nothing and their IPs have been essentially left to rot. Unless Microsoft does a perfect 180 in management philosophy, it doesn't matter how many game studios they buy their software output will still be lacking compared to Sony and Nintendo.

Yeah, and that Gameboy NEEDS color to survive. GameGear is gonna beat its ass...
