Lol what? My PS4 pro in vr kicks out about 480p on a 4K tv.

The resolution in VR appears lower than it is because of how close the screen is.  1080p in VR is a lot closer to a 480p TV than a 1080p TV.

But still the OP said power of a console doesnt matter its the display, well why cant my PS4 Pro submit 4k then? Instead of checkerboarding, and also in VT it definately isnt 4k. Resolution on switch VR will look terrible. Simple fact.

Your Pro can't submit 4K because the PSVR screen is not 4K. It's 1080p for each eye iirc (Don't quote me on this). Saying power doesn't matter is not entirely right I guess, but even if Switch were more powerful then Xbox One X and its screen was still 720p, the power wouldn't matter at all, because of the screen resolution.

They should have chosen Splatoon 2, much better fit for a VR imo.

There are dozens of hands on impressions which confirm the obvious, the resolution is absolutely workable.

“Sticking the Switch’s 720p resolution screen right up to your face has about the expected result: it’s pretty blurry, but not to a level that it impedes your enjoyment of the games”

This echoes my first experience with Oculus back 2013, no one cared. The key is that this is accessible, cheap and the experiences are fun. That’s infinitely more important for the future of VR than high res displays.

Lack of a head strap option is a way bigger problem imo, although I understand that VR Switch isn’t supposed to be something you do for hours on end.

Hopefully if this is well received they can just make a standalone vr unit with the chipset of the rumoured Switch Pro.

The chipset is obvs mobile anyway so is suitable for that implementation and a standalone would have a better screen setup & a much better 'wear' setup.

If they could do it for 300 bucks or less I'm sure it'd sell some and would be true wireless vr, without the tethering limitations of all the other big vr sets...

They'd really need to step up with their software offerings though - though it seems like they've made a solid start with odyssey and botw!

I think that VR could actually become much more important as we enter the streaming era.

When those services are established and the kinks worked out it will be very tempting for people to jump ship from Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft to Stadia or other streaming option when they can provide comparable experiences for no up front cost.

The thing that will keep people on-board with any platform will be the differentiaters, 1 of these is obviously exclusive games, another could be VR.

Once you've spent 2 or 3 hundred quid on a VR set which is tied to a platform, you'll be less likely to move over to the competition whenever they have a deal on their monthly subscription. Indeed, going forward, VR may be the only hardware investment required for any platform (as well as controllers in some cases I guess), as eventually all players will have a streaming solution.

I was pretty excited at first, but now reality is setting in. I want VR Zelda so I can feel like I'm in the world of Zelda, not so I can feel like a camera floating behind Link's head. Then when you consider that BotW never ran at 60 fps and probably won't now either, it'll probably be a painful experience to do for long, but if you make the entire game VR I'm going to want to play the entire game in VR. Finally there's the lack of a headset. I don't want to hold that thing to my face for that long. I feel like there's real money to be made for anyone able to engineer a carboard headset that can hold the Switch tablet like the goggles do while simply resting on your head without the need for straps, like PSVR does.

I think people have way too high expectations on this one.

Pretty sure Nintendo intends this to be a showcase rather than the full fledged experience.
And I also don't see Nintendo to fully enter the VR market anytime soon.
Labo kits are designed to show new ways to play thanks to the Switch.

I think it depends on how you define soon. They're clearly dipping their toes in here. Considering the potential of the Switch and how it's demonstrated here, I'm feeling like this is a sign that the Switch 2 will have a VR form factor to complement the portable and home console form factors. This little experience here is just their way of telling us "No really, we are interested in VR." They've said they are several times, claiming that they're keeping their eye on the space, with nothing to show for it. Well now they have something. But the Switch as it is just isn't capable of a proper VR experience. The Switch Pro, if it's real, will take it in the right direction and allow for more sophisticated VR experiences, but still not on the level that PSVR provides. If they do continue to develop small experiences like this, especially if they start being exclusive to the Switch Pro, you'll know they're courting their audience to give VR a try, and want it to be a part of their future. In which case I can easily see Switch 2 launching 2024 with hardware on the level of a PS4 Pro, full VR capabilities on the level of PSVR, packaged with a cheap plastic headset that the tablet can plug into to be a VR headset, and a really good launch VR experience, like perhaps Metriod Prime 4? Or maybe the next Zelda with a 1st person mode?

I may probably going to grab this VR Labo kit, i know people thinking there's lack of straps, i'm pretty there are holes(smirk) in it and you could buy some straps yourself :D Otherwise i would rather hold the switch over wearing straps to prevent back head pain and facial pain.

Not something I'd be interested in purchasing but nice for the people who are into this kind of experiences.
