Forums - Gaming Discussion - Games you put down after a significant time investment. Have you ever successfuly returned?

Goddam reset button right beside the post button!!

I'll just say God of War and Horizon. I'm gonna have to start all the way over.

Never

If I can't finish a game, that means said game is bad, and too hard for the wrong reasons.

I picked up Armored Core 3 for the PS2 and put 40 hours into it. Game was awesome except for one problem. The controls were too wonky, and the enemy AI was inhumanly good. Enemies could jump up and down constantly, while zig zagging left and right all while keeping a perfect bead on you to fire away. The controls had sliding left and right be R1 and L1. Looking up and down was R2 and L2. Looking left and right was the analog stick. So you had to control your aiming with a wonky combination of shoulder paddles, and analog stick.

I'm sure I have, though I can't think of any examples. When a game comes out that I've been waiting for, I have to try it, even if I'm already playing something, and then I lose my place in the first game and have to start over. If a lot of time has gone by, I just can't start in the middle. That's one of the reasons I dropped Game of Thrones--I would start the series over because of SO MUCH TIME between books and after reading the first book three times, I just couldn't do it anymore.

However, I dropped Divinity OS2 after 79 hours because it just wasn't a fun game and I stopped making excuses for it.

I have this a lot with jRPGs and so many older style wRPGs. I put anywhere between 15-40 hours into the following:

Grandia 1 & 2, Baldur's Gate, StarOcean 3, Xenoblade Chronicles and Pillars of Eternity.

Still plan on going back to the PC games at some point. I don't think I have access to the jRPGs anymore so they're a lost cause.

There are plenty of other games I've started but haven't played enough to include in the list but enough to feel "unfinished" like Doom, Wolfenstein 2, Metro: Last Light and Fallout: New Vegas.

- I did three playthroughs of Skyrim.
- Beat both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross countless times.
- Two playthroughs of Oblivion.
- Multiple Zelda games I have beaten nore than once.
- I beat GTA4 twice.
- I have returned to Bloodborne several times.
- Multiple playthroughs of Fable 1 and 3.
- I fully intend to replay both Zelda Breath of the Wild and Persona 5 at some point in the near future.

Matterfall, Persona 4 Golden, EDF 4.1: Wing Diver Shooter, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition. Those are all games I was playing/enjoying in fairly recent times and got sidetracked and have yet to return to. I'd have to restart P4 Golden for sure.....I can't think of too many I've returned to after significant time away. I DID restart FF Tactics on PS1 after save-fucking myself near the end of the game. It took about a year to restart. And restarted Demon's Souls after losing 40 hours when lightning fried my system. That took roughly 2 years to begin again. I hope to restart Final Fantasy XIII-2 some day, but will need the emotional support of a strong partner to do it.

I got Final Fantasy XV for Christmas back in 2016 for PS4 (my first FF game) and was really loving it but then either I couldn't play my PS4 for a while or got sidetracked by other things so I didn't play it for a few months. I think I got about 20-30 hours in but by the time I tried to re-get into it months later I just couldn't, I didn't remember where I last was in the story or what I was even doing that it became obvious that it just wasn't going to be the same experience and I wasn't about to replay the past 20-30 hours again so I never have completed it. It sucks cause I was really loving it :(

That's the only major game I can think of where I just couldn't return to after a while despite wanting to. The only way I can see myself replaying it at this point is on PC eventually.

Well I came pretty close to beating FFX numerous times on the PS2 but didn't actually beat it until I got it on the PS3. I also took a long break in between starting and finishing Tales of Vesperia on the 360.

Not significant 6 hours but Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts was a big offender. Really could not get into it and the create your own vehicles didn't click with me, tried it again and then end up loving it.
